[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:01] Speaker B: You're watching the Prep Rally podcast. Welcome to the Prep Rally podcast. This is Graham Thomas here in snowy Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Leland Barclay from the craft room and very cold, chilly Van Buren. Obviously, we're on, on the Zoom podcast today, this being Thursday, February 20th, and boy, it's, it's been interesting weekly and we, we all got to get out Monday and go to some games in the last three days have just been, you know, we've been barricaded inside while the winter weather is taking its toll. [00:00:41] Speaker A: Well, and you know, it's funny, we. [00:00:43] Speaker C: Have a mass text among the sports. [00:00:45] Speaker A: Riders and it has just been going. [00:00:48] Speaker C: Wild, especially the last two days, talking about the schedules and possible changes and. [00:00:54] Speaker A: You know, schedules being rearranged because for the smaller classifications, 4A, 3A, 2A and Single A, we're in district tournaments in 5A and 6A. [00:01:04] Speaker C: We're down to the nitty gritty in. [00:01:06] Speaker A: The final week and a half of conference play. [00:01:09] Speaker C: So all the games this week especially. [00:01:12] Speaker A: Are the biggest of the season. [00:01:14] Speaker B: You know, we, we've all been kind of navigating this the last three days. What, what are they going to do? What are they not going to do? We're starting to get some answers. So. And we'll dive into that a little. [00:01:24] Speaker D: Bit later in the show. [00:01:25] Speaker B: But first, let's talk about just a couple of games from, from Monday night, actually. I know you were at Northside, Southside, you know, the great, the great rivalry. The Battle of Rogers Avenue. Basketball Edition. [00:01:39] Speaker D: Tell us a little bit about, you. [00:01:40] Speaker B: Know, the boys game. [00:01:41] Speaker A: Well, of course, the boys game, it. [00:01:43] Speaker C: Wouldn'T be north side and south side without a few technicals. So in that game, there were five. [00:01:48] Speaker A: Technicals called, including a double technical in the second half and then a technical. [00:01:54] Speaker C: On the south side. Coach. [00:01:56] Speaker A: So, you know, what would north side and Southside be without a technical? South side led 14 to 12 after the first quarter. They were still within 21 to 19. [00:02:06] Speaker C: With 406 left in the second quarter. [00:02:10] Speaker A: When Tyo Flake hit a three pointer for south side. Did a little taunting at the north side bench. Got a technical. Then the coach got a technical. North side went on a 14.0run and, and kind of ran away from there, even though Southside was still within 5,142. [00:02:28] Speaker C: To open the fourth quarter. So that final score was very, very. [00:02:31] Speaker A: Very not indicative of the, the final. [00:02:37] Speaker C: Of the game itself, 72 to 49. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Northside was the final, much closer game than that. Very exciting game. Derek shepherd was honored before the Game with a commemorative ball for 1,000 points scored in his career. [00:02:53] Speaker C: He went out and added 34 more. [00:02:56] Speaker A: Points to his career total with with 34 against Southside in the final game that he'll play in that rivalry. So it was. The boys game was very, very entertaining, to say the least. [00:03:09] Speaker E: 20 this year. How's that net feel? [00:03:12] Speaker F: It feels great. You know, coming off of splitting with them last year, you know, it just feels great to be. Be back on top again and then. [00:03:20] Speaker E: To go out and score 34 against them. Your last time to play south side, I guess that's got to be on your home court. [00:03:26] Speaker F: Yes, sir. It was meaningful. So I wanted to go out with the bang. [00:03:30] Speaker E: More importantly, two wins in a row. You know, you guys have touched the state tournament birth. Kind of want to keep that going last few games of conference, don't you? [00:03:38] Speaker F: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. [00:03:39] Speaker A: For sure. [00:03:39] Speaker F: We want to keep this thing rolling as long as possible. [00:03:43] Speaker B: And on the girls side, you know, north side for sure took care of business like we all thought they would. [00:03:50] Speaker D: And they're still right there in the. [00:03:51] Speaker B: Mix competing for a conference title. Back to the boys side, though, Leland. You know, the. The big thing with Northside, they probably, I don't know if they've officially, but probably have clinched a state tournament berth with that win. [00:04:06] Speaker A: Well, I think, you know, I guess. [00:04:08] Speaker C: Mathematically they have not. But for all intent and purposes, and I'm sure their coach doesn't want to hear this, but for all intent and. [00:04:16] Speaker A: Purposes, they've clinched the state tournament berth. They, in fact, they've won two in a row. [00:04:22] Speaker C: The big win for them really was last Friday, beating Bentonville at home. A very good Bentonville team. [00:04:28] Speaker A: And north side kind of controlled that game throughout. In that game, Derek Shepherd, 31 points. [00:04:35] Speaker C: So back to back, 30 point games. [00:04:37] Speaker A: For him and a big win for them last Friday. So they can now even try to put together a little bit of a winning streak and really have some momentum going into that, that state tournament. [00:04:50] Speaker C: They go on the road. Well, they're scheduled to go on the. [00:04:53] Speaker A: Road on Friday night. I think that might be pushed back to Saturday throughout the 6A west, but we really don't know that yet either as well. So, yeah, they're. They're on a. On a good streak right now, playing very well. They've kind of found, I think, their identity. [00:05:11] Speaker C: They found their rotation. [00:05:13] Speaker A: You know, Enoch Slater coming off the bench. He was a starter early in the year. He's now their sixth guy. He comes in off the bench. I talked to him about that role after the Bentonville game. [00:05:26] Speaker C: And he's played very well. [00:05:27] Speaker A: So they're, they're playing very well right now. [00:05:30] Speaker B: I would say the, the biggest win on, on the boys side up, up this away Monday night would have been. [00:05:37] Speaker D: Fayetteville boys over Bentonville West 50 to 38. [00:05:40] Speaker B: And that, that moved Fayetteville into third place and they still have a shot at second. I don't know that anybody can catch Springdale at 13 0. But the Fayetteville boys are 10 and 3, harbors 12 and 2. That drop Ben and Bentonville west is 7 and 6. Bentonville's 8 and 5. So we're kind of starting to see the order of things here. But that was a big win for Fayetteville. [00:06:04] Speaker A: Well, and how about, you know, how. [00:06:06] Speaker C: Big is that Springdale and Harbor double header? [00:06:09] Speaker A: Not just one game, but that double header coming up too. And yeah, Fayetteville is always kind of there and you're right, they've kind of. [00:06:18] Speaker C: Started separating themselves a little bit now. [00:06:20] Speaker A: So the state tournament, which, you know, we get to see here in our backyard at Springdale is going to be very interesting. [00:06:28] Speaker B: Yes, sir. On the girls side of things, you know, I guess the, the big to do up here has been where's Tom Hallmar been, the Bentonville coach. And we can't seem to get answers from the Bentonville administration. Although I think we all kind of, you know, hint about, you know, what, what may be going on there. We do expect to see him back. Meanwhile, Bentonville girls got a nice win against Rogers the other night and they've got a big one coming up against Bentonville West. They're, they're trying to fight proceeding as well with Fayetteville and you know, harbor. [00:07:02] Speaker D: And north side are right there. [00:07:03] Speaker B: So the girls is certainly very interesting conference as well. [00:07:08] Speaker A: Yeah, it's gonna, you know, there's going. [00:07:10] Speaker C: To be a very, very, very good team. [00:07:13] Speaker A: Finished third out of that group and a very good one finished fourth as well. You know, and they want to obviously avoid as long as they can the teams from the Central because, you know, Conway is just, is just very good. Central is the defending, you know, state champion North Little Rock is always good. A dangerous team as well. So it's going to be, you know, that, that, that final standings and, and of course it's, it's going to come down to head to head as well. But that Springdale Harbor, Springdale game is a big one and that one's at harbor, so. [00:07:51] Speaker B: Well, we'll, we'll dive a little Bit into the five west here from Friday night. So, you know, I think that the big takeaway is one Harrison being Alma by one point at Alma. That was a big win. And Van Buren going up and beating Mountain Home pretty handily, keeping their, their hopes alive for a playoff. You know, Almano is disappointed by the loss. There's, there's a big clash coming with, with those two teams. Alma, Van Buren and we'll talk about a little bit later. But Harrison getting a win, I mean that did that wrap things up for them you think, in the conference? [00:08:30] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so. [00:08:32] Speaker C: I think that's going to give them the top seed. [00:08:35] Speaker A: That was obviously a big win. You know, they've still got to play Van Buren at home, you know, so we'll see. [00:08:43] Speaker C: It certainly helped them a bunch. [00:08:45] Speaker A: And of course the Farmington girls are just cruising. [00:08:49] Speaker B: Oh man, they, you know, and on the girls side, I mean, I don't know there's a better team in the state in any classification. They walloped Greenwood pretty good. It wasn't, I thought maybe Greenwood would, would and they played him tough early, but Farmington just has too many weapons. [00:09:09] Speaker A: Well, and I think that's going to be the case most nights against Farmington. I mean, gosh, if you shoot, if. [00:09:16] Speaker C: You shut down half of their team. [00:09:19] Speaker A: You still got, you know, other outstanding. [00:09:23] Speaker C: Players to contend with. [00:09:25] Speaker A: It's just, it's across the board. [00:09:28] Speaker B: You know, the Van Buren girls, I mean, you know, I know they didn't beat Mountain Home on Friday night, but boy, I tell you what, they, they have shown on multiple times now that they can hang with some people and they seem like the team that's just primed to get somebody in the state tournament type setting. [00:09:44] Speaker A: Well, it, it, you know, all year. [00:09:46] Speaker C: We'Ve talked about Mountain Home, Farmington and Greenwood being the top three. [00:09:50] Speaker A: Van Buren has kind of risen to. [00:09:53] Speaker C: The top of the, the rest of. [00:09:54] Speaker A: Those, but they've really got it tough as well. [00:09:57] Speaker C: They've still got to go to Harrison. [00:09:58] Speaker A: They only beat Harrison 33 to 31 in the first meeting at Van Buren. [00:10:02] Speaker C: So even though they hold out the. [00:10:04] Speaker A: Tie breaking advantage with the win, it's only a two point margin. And then of course they have to go to Alma on Tuesday, which is a rivalry game, you know, so it's, you know, it's, it's, they've still got three tough games left to go and then they finish against Farmington. So it's going to be a huge three games stretch for baby or boys. [00:10:27] Speaker C: And girls because the boys are still. [00:10:28] Speaker A: Hanging by a thread. So it's, it's a big, it's a big stretch for them and, and Alma. [00:10:37] Speaker B: All right, well, with that in mind, I think we'll, we'll go ahead and jump into our Give Me five segment for this week. And Leland, we'll let you start with Give me five in the River Valley. [00:10:50] Speaker C: Okay, this is the top five performances. [00:10:52] Speaker A: For the girls in the River Valley last week. We always start, of course, with number one. Our River Valley Democratic is that player of the week, Kaylee Ward, a junior, 63 junior from Mansfield. She finished off the regular season with 30 points, 18 rebounds, 7 blocks against Lavaca. [00:11:11] Speaker C: The game before that in a very close loss to Lamar, the top seed in the 3A 4, she had 23. [00:11:18] Speaker A: Points, 18 rebounds and six blocks. So a fantastic season for her. And the Lady Tigers were the number. [00:11:27] Speaker C: Two seeds, so they'll play in the. [00:11:29] Speaker A: Semifinals of the 3A 4 district slash conference tournament. [00:11:35] Speaker C: Number two, of course, Ariana Gooden, senior. [00:11:37] Speaker A: For north side versus Southside on Friday night or on Monday night in a 64 to 29 win. 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kind of just her usual great performance all around performance for, for the senior who also is approaching 1800 points for her career. [00:11:59] Speaker E: Southside, y'all came here four years ago, you know, twin sisters, to go undefeated against the crosstown rivals. [00:12:06] Speaker A: How neat is that? [00:12:07] Speaker G: It's really neat. It's an honor. We don't take it for granted. I mean, there's a culture here and Northside wins. So to be able to keep that alive, I mean, it means it's really, really special. Yeah, it's really amazing to be able to do that four years and be undefeated against them. [00:12:22] Speaker E: Well, and also, you know, a conference game, big game, you got some big ones coming up. Just kind of the stepping stone toward those. [00:12:30] Speaker G: Yep, yep. We got, we got one more home game and we got two conference games left and then it's the real deal. So we're getting ready. Yeah, same. [00:12:41] Speaker C: Number three, a freshman from Cedarville, Emily McCutcheon, 22 points in the 3A4 opener. [00:12:49] Speaker A: On Monday night in a 5849 win over Cassatot River. A big win for the Cedarville 80 Pirates. [00:12:57] Speaker C: Number four, Jalen Sims from magazine scored 24 points in a 51 to 24. [00:13:03] Speaker A: Win over Western Yale county to conclude the regular season for the Lady Rattlers. Number five, we cross over into Oklahoma. [00:13:12] Speaker C: Roland. Sophomore Ryan Nelke had 19 points and a 59, 21 win over Chakota as. [00:13:19] Speaker A: They finished off the regular season last week. [00:13:22] Speaker C: And now the top five performances of the past week for the boys in the River Valley. [00:13:27] Speaker A: Number one, River Valley Democratic Gazette Players of the week the Twin Towers. The combination of Coda Terrell, a senior. [00:13:36] Speaker C: And Junior Houston's troops from Pecola combined for 63 points in a 105 to. [00:13:44] Speaker A: 60 win over Warner in a district tournament game. The one game district in this past week, Terrell was. That's a bunch of points. [00:13:56] Speaker C: Terrell was 12 for 12 from the. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Field, 7 of 10 from the free throw line and had 12 rebounds in that game. [00:14:05] Speaker C: Of course, he's the 69 senior. [00:14:07] Speaker A: He had 31 points. He's going to Missouri as a wide. [00:14:10] Speaker C: Receiver to play football. [00:14:13] Speaker A: Number two, Derek shepherd, of course, a guard for North Forsmith Northside in the. [00:14:18] Speaker C: 72 to 49 win over Southside on. [00:14:21] Speaker A: Monday, 34 points, 10 rebounds. And then last week against Bentonville, he scored 32 points. I think I said 31 earlier, so. [00:14:30] Speaker C: 66 points for him in the last. [00:14:32] Speaker A: Two wins for the Grizzlies. Number three is a number is another combination. Cooper Dewar, a sophomore, and Caleb Lyons, a senior from Ozark, combined for 30 points in a win on Monday in the first round of the 4A 4 district tournament at Ozark. A 6228 win over Waldron last week in a regular season game, they combined. [00:14:59] Speaker C: For 48 points with Dewar scoring 23 and Caleb Lyon scoring 25. [00:15:05] Speaker A: The win on Monday secured a spot in the district tournament semifinals and also wrapped up a berth in next week's regional tournament. [00:15:14] Speaker C: Number four, A.G. denton, a senior for Van Buren, had 19 points and seven rebounds in a 62 to 43 win. [00:15:23] Speaker A: Over Mountain Home last week. And then number five, we go over Oklahoma again. [00:15:28] Speaker C: Tegan Collins. [00:15:29] Speaker A: We heard his name a lot during football season. Well, he's pretty good in basketball, too. He scored 21 points in a 68 to 49 win over Salazar on on on last week to wrap up the regular season for the Bulldogs. And those are the top 10 performances of the last week in the River Valley. [00:15:52] Speaker B: All right, well, so that will be. [00:15:55] Speaker D: A good segue for us to go to the top five performances for Northwest Arkansas boys. We'll start with the Northwest Arkansas Democrat. [00:16:04] Speaker B: Gazette player of the week, Caden Smith of Huntsville. [00:16:08] Speaker D: The 63 senior had a pair of big games to help Huntsville clip second place in the 4A1 conference. [00:16:14] Speaker B: And why is that a big deal? Well, the. [00:16:17] Speaker D: The winter weather gives us a reason. [00:16:19] Speaker B: Why it's a big deal. By getting second place in the 4A one, they earned an automatic birth to the regional tournament Darnell next week and the 4A1 has since come out and said they're not going to be able to complete the conference tournament as it is and so Huntsville is going to automatically get the number two seed from the conference to go to that to go to the regional tournament. Now they are going to still play some the some of the games in the regional tournament to determine who gets to go back to Kaden Smith though. He had 15 points and seven rebounds in a 5349 win at Gravett. Then he came back in the final. [00:16:58] Speaker D: Game of the regular season and 18. [00:16:59] Speaker B: Points against Prairie Grove. He's been the team's leader in scoring and rebounding all season and leading assists until just recently. He's what a good job by him. Number two, I'm gonna go with Hudson Norris of Bearable, his offensive rebound and bucket helped Berryville finish off a 6361. [00:17:21] Speaker D: Win against Gentry on Monday in the. [00:17:23] Speaker B: Opening round of the conference tourname that kept the Bobcats alive and in this conference tournament and they'll play again looks like on Saturday. Now CT Hicks had 21 games or sorry, 21 points for Barry bowl in that win as well. Number three, Isaiah Seeley, 25 points in a win against Bentonville west last Friday. Springdale Bulldogs are 130 in the league and just, you know, rolling on on the track to a conference championship. Number four is a name we haven't really said a whole lot of this year, but he's certainly capable and, and that's Sam Kirkman of Farmington. [00:18:04] Speaker D: He hit seven three pointers as Farmington blasted Greenwood last Friday. [00:18:09] Speaker B: I'll tell you, Leland Farmington is a sneaky good team. They're a team that, you know, has a lot of weapons just like a Harrison or some of these other teams. They're, they're right up there and if. [00:18:21] Speaker D: Sam Kirkman goes off for seven threes. [00:18:23] Speaker B: In the game, then it's going to be really tough to beat Farmington. We'll stay with the 5A West. [00:18:29] Speaker D: Ryder Scribner of Harrison 23 points and. [00:18:31] Speaker B: 6 rebounds as Harrison Harrison clipped Alma last Friday night. All the five A West teams were. [00:18:39] Speaker D: Scheduled off on this past Tuesday anyway, so nothing was postponed. [00:18:44] Speaker B: As a little bonus, Barry Huntley of. [00:18:47] Speaker D: Elkins rolled a 636 series and claimed. [00:18:51] Speaker B: The individual state championship for the Elkins Elks in this in the 3 the 3A 4A state bowling tournament, Pea Ridge. [00:19:03] Speaker D: Won the team title led by Peyton Kidderman who finished second with a 634 and teammate Aaron Hinosa with 629. [00:19:13] Speaker B: And we'll have a little more of a black hot bowling here with the. [00:19:18] Speaker D: Top five NWA Girls. [00:19:19] Speaker B: Get to that in just a second. These are the top five NWA Girls performances of the week. [00:19:25] Speaker D: Number one is our Northwest Arkansas Democrat. [00:19:28] Speaker B: Gazette player of the week, Riley Nichols of Gentry. Nichols, who averaged a double double this. [00:19:35] Speaker D: Season at 18 points and 17 rebounds. [00:19:38] Speaker B: In the win over Bearable and almost did it again with another double double. [00:19:43] Speaker D: She had 15 points and nine rebounds in a win against Gravett to close. [00:19:46] Speaker B: Out the regular season. Number two, though, the Gravett Lady Lions get their revenge for that end of the season loss. They've had a tough, tough year, but it got a little bit better on. [00:19:57] Speaker D: Monday night when they turned around and beat Gentry 56 to 50 in the. [00:20:02] Speaker B: First round of the conference tournament. Indian Lady Pioneer season. [00:20:06] Speaker D: Lillian Sharp had 13 points, Kenley Harris. [00:20:09] Speaker B: 12, and the lady Lions have advanced on to play Huntsville at Huntsville on Saturday. Kayla Lozano of Green Forest. She scored a layup with two seconds. [00:20:22] Speaker D: Left to lead the Green Forest lady. [00:20:24] Speaker B: Tigers to a 3937 win over Prairie. [00:20:28] Speaker D: Grove in the opening round of the. [00:20:29] Speaker B: 4A1 tournament at Huntsville. I can't even remember the last time Prairie Grove was out in the first round of the conference tournament, but here we are with that Green Forest supposed to play rival Bearable in the quarterfinals. Number four, Macy Willis of Valley Springs hit a running jump shot with 4 seconds left as the Valley Springs girls defeated Salem on last Friday night. And then the Farmington girls, wow. Just, you know, what a machine they are. [00:21:02] Speaker D: They pick up their 53rd consecutive conference. [00:21:05] Speaker B: Win and a blowout win against Greenwood the other night. This would have been last Friday. East of McCullough had 20, Casey McCumber had 19. Marin Adams had 17. Just weapons all over the court. I don't see anybody slowing them down anytime soon. And then as a bonus, we mentioned Peerage bowling. [00:21:27] Speaker D: How about Zaylee Warden of peerage? [00:21:29] Speaker B: She bowled a 580 to win the individual state title and help the Lady Blackhawks to the state championship in the 3A 4A. Bowling coach Johnny King, legend, as we like to call him, got his second state title of the day as Peerage won that one as well. So that is the top five performances in Northwest Arkansas. And I tell you what, Leland man like it. You know, it's. It's kind of funny how quick this thing can go by, but it feels like, you know, the stuff happened last Friday just happened. And yet here we are almost a week away from it. So I know these next few weeks are going to go by quick. [00:22:17] Speaker C: Absolutely. [00:22:18] Speaker A: Especially you know, with all these games packed in close together due to the weather. [00:22:25] Speaker B: You know, it makes it fun, I. [00:22:26] Speaker D: Think, and that, that does make it go by quick. [00:22:31] Speaker B: As we wrap up the show, we're going to just going to kind of take a look ahead at kind of what's, what's on the horizon. So as we're filming at the moment, we don't really have any information about the 6A west game scheduled for Friday. So if you're tuning into the podcast and you're wondering why we're still talking about Friday's games, well, that's the reason why. But matchups On Friday, February 21st, we got Bentonville west at Bentonville. Always a great rivalry between the two Bentonville schools. Fayetteville's at Springdale. Should be a great girls game and probably a really good boys game too, I would think. North side is at Rogers Heritage, Portsmouth Southside is at Rogers. You know, big, big important games for, for all four of those teams. Northside boys need to, need to keep winning and Rogers Heritage and Southside are all, you know, trying to get as much out of this the rest of the way as they can. Then on the 5A west side, we have gotten some information about what's going on there and well, we know for sure that Alma is going to make the trip up to Mountain Home and play the Bombers at noon at 1:30 on Saturday. And we know that Russellville and Farmington are also going to play Monday as. [00:23:56] Speaker D: Well as Siloam Springs and Greenwood will play Monday. [00:24:00] Speaker B: One we haven't been able to get. [00:24:02] Speaker D: Get our hands on yet is what's. [00:24:03] Speaker B: Happening with Van Buren and Harrison. And you know, I know Van Buren would like to play this game on Saturday. Harrison wants to play it on Monday. But you know, we're getting into two sides unwilling to, to budge on that one, aren't we, Leland? [00:24:22] Speaker A: Yeah, and I, you know, I can certainly see, you know, Van Buren's point. Alma didn't want to go to Mountain. [00:24:28] Speaker C: Home on Monday and turn around and play Van Buren on Tuesday. [00:24:32] Speaker A: They worked that out. They're going to play at noon on Saturday, which is a great alternative. [00:24:38] Speaker C: Van Buren also is facing the same situation. [00:24:41] Speaker A: They don't want to go to Harrison on Monday night, get home at midnight, everybody get in bed at 1 o'clock, come back to school on Tuesday and then have to play Arrival at, at. [00:24:52] Speaker C: Rival Alma on Tuesday. [00:24:55] Speaker A: Huge games for the, for the, all four, all eight teams actually involved Mountain home, Alma, Van Buren and Harrison, especially the girls. I think Van Buren beat Harrison 33 to 31 the first go around. That's an important game for both Harrison and Van Buren girls for really for that fourth and final state tournament. Bertha. So that's a huge game. Van Buren, of course, the boys, the pointers are still hanging by thread. You know, have to go to Harrison. Then they play at rival album on Tuesday and then at Farmington to wrap up or I guess at home against. [00:25:37] Speaker C: Farmington to wrap up the regular season. [00:25:39] Speaker A: So huge games. There's also the possibility of going Monday, Wednesday, Friday for those three games. But at this point, you know, I know Vapierens kind of dug in their heels and they want to go Saturday. [00:25:54] Speaker C: I know that north side Rogers is out of school. [00:25:57] Speaker A: They've already announced that Rogers will not. [00:26:00] Speaker C: Have school on Friday. [00:26:02] Speaker A: So I think Northside is looking at. [00:26:04] Speaker C: Going to heritage on Saturday. So that's a possibility for them. [00:26:10] Speaker A: And there's just. There's a lot going on, especially the district tournaments. [00:26:15] Speaker C: Ozark and Johnson county, West side, the 2A 4 and the 4A 4 kind of had an advantage because those are 16 conferences. So they didn't have as many games. [00:26:24] Speaker A: They got first round games in on Monday, which were basically elimination games. [00:26:29] Speaker C: Now we're into the semifinals. So everybody's going to the regionals for sure. And that's why those games can be. [00:26:36] Speaker A: Played Friday and Saturday and be done with it. [00:26:39] Speaker C: Boonville, the 3A4, that's a 19 boys. [00:26:43] Speaker A: Conference and an 18 girls conference with Subiaco in the conference. [00:26:47] Speaker C: So lots of games there. [00:26:48] Speaker A: They had planned on playing the entire week. [00:26:51] Speaker C: Instead they had Tuesday and Wednesday wiped out. [00:26:53] Speaker A: They're playing games on Thursday and then Friday and Saturday and Monday. So they've elected to go ahead and. [00:27:00] Speaker C: Play on Monday for those championship games. [00:27:03] Speaker A: Which are also big for seedings. Saturday's games are going to be semifinals games, so all those teams are going to be able to go to the regional tournament. We know that's what makes the Thursday and Friday games so big. Scranton hosting the A4 is a whole nother animal because O Arc and St. [00:27:23] Speaker C: Paul both won games on Monday to extend their season. [00:27:27] Speaker A: Well, have you ever been to O R Graham? [00:27:31] Speaker B: I have never been to Oark. [00:27:32] Speaker A: O Arc is. It is north of Interstate 40, I'd. [00:27:37] Speaker C: Say about 30 miles. [00:27:39] Speaker A: And it is up Highway 101, which. Okay, people talk about the. The big. The pig trail from Ozark North 101. The pig trail has nothing on Highway 101. It is it is. [00:27:57] Speaker C: It is an incline. It is windy. [00:28:00] Speaker A: I mean, it is just a. It may not thaw out. Highway 101 may not thaw out for another week. [00:28:07] Speaker C: So O ARC has to get down that road to go to Scranton to. [00:28:10] Speaker A: Play these district tournament games. So they don't even know if they're going to be able to play Friday yet Saturday or maybe Monday. And the reason some of these schools. [00:28:22] Speaker C: Don'T want to play their district tournaments on Monday is because of the short. [00:28:26] Speaker A: Turnaround to the regional tournaments that begin on Wednesday. Well, and the four A1 has elected to not play championship games and just go with the seedings that will determine. [00:28:39] Speaker C: The seatings for those teams that make it that four. [00:28:42] Speaker A: So that's. [00:28:42] Speaker C: That's kind of a backup plan for them. [00:28:45] Speaker A: Scranton at this point and then also St. Paul. St. Paul is north, so they've got. [00:28:50] Speaker C: A lot of travel involved with some of the teams. [00:28:54] Speaker A: So it'll be interesting to see what the A4 is able to do. And they may have to go to a Saturday and Monday or Saturday and. [00:29:02] Speaker C: Then just decide on the seedings. [00:29:04] Speaker A: Or if they can't get the games in, they could always just go by. [00:29:08] Speaker C: The seedings from the regular season as. [00:29:10] Speaker A: Well as a backup plan. [00:29:13] Speaker B: I tell you what, it's just. It's just a fascinating problem. And it seems like, you know, every year, every other year we're going to be faced with this situation. It's kind of like with the rain outs in the spring. I mean, you know, you just. You have a limited amount of time and games that need to be played. Leland, I'm all for. [00:29:29] Speaker D: Let's do some Sunday. [00:29:30] Speaker B: I mean, let's, let's. I'll call the AAA right now and say, look, you know, we ought to have a good melt Saturday. Let's play a little Sunday ball. I'll be all for. [00:29:39] Speaker C: I know that. I know to play on Sunday for. [00:29:41] Speaker A: Anything other than regional or state teams. [00:29:46] Speaker C: Have to get permission from the aaa. [00:29:48] Speaker A: And I don't see a problem with a Saturday. Monday. Some of the teams would have to turn around and play on Wednesday in the regionals. But still, that's not that big a deal. You know, I know that at Boonville on the 3A4 on Saturday, there's four games, but they're playing those kind of early in the day again. Mountain home and Alma, they're starting at noon. So these teams are really trying to get games in, obviously. And it's a big deal for these district tournaments to get these games in because they get to host, and they don't get to host very often, so obviously they want to host these games. But, yeah, it's, at this point, everything is, I guess you'd have to say, is. Is fluid. [00:30:31] Speaker B: No doubt about that. All right, well, we are running out of time here on our Zoom Prep Rally podcast this week. [00:30:40] Speaker A: Well, in the indoor. The indoor track meet, State track meet. [00:30:44] Speaker C: Also is scheduled to be Saturday. [00:30:46] Speaker A: Saturday as well. That's another one that we haven't heard anything on. [00:30:50] Speaker B: Haven't heard anything yet on that one. And just, you know, looking outside, I mean, as I said to our sports riders group, it's going to take a small miracle to get all this melted in time because that, you know, with the heavy freezing and refreezing, that. [00:31:04] Speaker D: That creates another set of problems on the roads up here. [00:31:07] Speaker B: So we got a lot of ice to melt and somewhere for that water to go. [00:31:12] Speaker A: Yeah, we were at six degrees this morning. [00:31:17] Speaker B: That's cold. [00:31:19] Speaker C: That's cool. [00:31:20] Speaker B: Zero, zero. [00:31:21] Speaker A: That's even colder. [00:31:25] Speaker B: So, yeah, it's like what. What outkast used to say. [00:31:28] Speaker D: What's cooler than being cool? Ice cold. [00:31:31] Speaker B: So that's where we are right now. All right, well, thank you to Leland for joining us on our prep rally podcast this week, and thanks to Diana, our producer, for setting all this up for us. [00:31:42] Speaker D: And we'll hopefully have Sydney back next week. [00:31:46] Speaker B: And, well, I'll tell you what, Leland, take care of yourself. Stay safe, stay warm. We're both bundled up like we're outside, so. But anyway, for Leland Barclay, I'm Graham Thomas, signing off. See you next time.
