[00:00:00] Speaker A: Fayetteville wins a slug fest against rogers at harmon field and remains unbeaten at five. And o, another showdown looms for the purple dogs next week in bentonville. But first, we've got the battle of springdale and some exciting five A west games on tap. All this and much, much more on this week's prep rally. [00:00:20] Speaker B: You're listening to the prep rally podcast. Now here's your host, graham thomas. [00:00:25] Speaker C: This. [00:00:26] Speaker A: Welcome to the prep rally podcast sponsored by west termite, pest and lawn. I'm Graham Thomas with the northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette. I'm joined live in the studio with Rick Fires, NWA sports reporter legend, and Leland Barclay joins us from the river valley. And guys, man, I am still buzing, still buzzing all these days later about that Fayetteville Rogers game. Last just you just don't recover from something like that. What a night, Rick. [00:00:58] Speaker D: Yeah, man, I kind of snuck out there. I wrote a column on it. You still got to hustle that up. But man, figuring up all them stats and numbers and trying to get everything right, so I kind of slipped out on you there. [00:01:11] Speaker A: Yeah, you did disappear. I was like, where's Rick at? I need some moral support here. [00:01:16] Speaker D: I couldn't give you any moral support. I mean, it was a three plus hour game. Just numbers, stats. It was an exciting game. [00:01:25] Speaker A: I'm still counting up stats, by the way. [00:01:27] Speaker D: Yeah, but let me say there was a couple of defensive stops in there. We'll talk about that later. But excellent game. Lived up to the building for sure, man. [00:01:38] Speaker A: Well over 1000 yards of offense between the two teams. Neither of them could really run the ball, which was really amazing. It's such a dominant passing game performance and I don't know that I've ever covered a game like that. The evolution of the passing game has made it such that my goodness. [00:02:00] Speaker D: Well, just think about this. Your quarterback throws six touchdown passes and you don't win the game. To me, 20 years ago, they were the unheard of. [00:02:11] Speaker A: Yeah, it just goes to show you how the game has changed. Fayetteville, with the 47 to 42 victory over Rogers, really? The game could have gone either way. I mean, Rogers had a chance to win and Leland, I don't know how much you were able to get from this, but I'll just kind of break down how this all played out. So Fayetteville was ahead 45 to 42 and Rogers had the ball deep in their own territory, but they were backed up on their four yard line and they're going to have to punt out of their own end zone. And Rogers made the decision at that point to go ahead and take a safety so they could kick off from their own 20 yard line and try to get the pin back and try to get the ball back and at least have a little more field position. Okay, well, that didn't exactly work out. That way because Fayetteville returned the punt, I believe, to the Rogers side of the field about the 47 yard line. And you're thinking, okay, well, that didn't really work out the way they wanted it to. Except the Rogers defense did hold. Fayetteville had to punt, and the punt snap went over the Fayetteville punter's head, and all of a sudden, Rogers has the ball on the 23 yard line with a couple of minutes left. It's like the plan worked. Now they've got a chance to go win the game. Of course, the very next snap, there was a fumble on the exchange between Jacob Jenkins and Dane Williams, the Rogers quarterback. Fayetteville recovered. I believe it was Jeff Miller who recovered. And, you know, Fayetteville did get one rushing first down on the very next offensive possession to be able to run off the rest of the clock. And the way that game finished with a defensive struggle, after all the offense, it just shows you how ironic it was. That's the big story from up here. 535 yards passing for Drake Lindsay. Dane Williams had a really good game, too, for Rogers. Those Rogers receivers are really good. [00:04:21] Speaker D: I noticed how tall they are. They are big old boys. They're 6364, except for little Regan. He's a little scat back kind of guy, but they are for real. They can really tear up a defense. [00:04:35] Speaker A: Yeah. So you had versa for Rogers Jenkins, cash Garner, regan Braxton, Lindsay. We had to bring out the B Lindsay, instead of the D Lindsay. We had lots of Lindsay's going at each other there. That's for Rogers. They had big nights. Jason Delamar, man, 13 receptions for 170 yards. [00:04:57] Speaker D: Clue. What? Second play from Scrimmage, right? [00:04:59] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. 84 yards on the second play to the house. And then mason spencer. What a game. He had eight catches for 156 yards and three scores. So, Leland, I'm sure there was a lot to take in when you got the box score there. [00:05:14] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I couldn't wait to get that. I don't know if I've ever seen a game or if there has ever been a game, actually, where there have been twelve touchdown passes combined in a game. I mean, that's just six by each quarterback. And those guys alone, they actually threw for more yardage than what was gained in the game because Fayetteville rushed for 1 YD. Rogers had a negative 41 yards rushing. So those guys combined to throw for more yards than there was in the game offense, and then 20 penalties, ten by each one. Eight different receivers in the game caught touchdown passes, four for each one. So this is just 101 passes thrown combined in the game. This is just a stat gold mine. To be able to go back and look at this, and I imagine in the game, it was hard to really maybe soak in during the time because it was all happening so fast, I'm sure. [00:06:21] Speaker A: Well, it was happening fast because both of them like to run a hurry up. So a lot of these plays you're trying to figure out, you're doing the math in your head. I once saw there was a wheel that someone used to have to be able to figure out the yardage on things really quickly. I got to find me this thing, because they can put where the line of scrimmage was, where it ended up, and you move the things in place and it automatically comes up with it. And I'm sitting here having to do the math. I think we got it all correct at the end of the day. I tell you what Chad Harveson we were talking about the Fayetteville defensive line and for whatever reason when I was uploading all my videos I couldn't get his to upload. It was just a crazy night. But he talked about that Fayetteville defensive line and the reason why Rogers had negative 41 yards rushing is because they couldn't block the Fayetteville defensive line. I mean those guys Dane Williams was running all over the place and they dominated the game. [00:07:24] Speaker D: Trey Lyle's big defensive end right there he's a dominant player be watching for. [00:07:29] Speaker A: Him later on in the Rogers eventually they just kind of gave up on the running game. They realized for the second week in a row, I might add, they just weren't able to run the football didn't. [00:07:42] Speaker D: Jenkins such a Jacob such a great receiver out of backfield I have no problem putting him out there in the slot or something. He scored that what 68 yarder real early for Roger and he just went soon. [00:07:55] Speaker A: Yeah and Christian setzer did have 59 yards on 19 carries. They were able to run it a little bit now that they get the one net yard because of all the sacks they had of Drake Lindsay it looks like they sacked him. Well he had seven carries for -24 yards but rick just like you pointed out in your column on Saturday morning the dude could scramble a little bit too and that made a difference in making some plays because Rogers could not get him on the ground at some point. [00:08:26] Speaker D: You know what he is viewed by I guess college recruiters as a pocket passer. I never have any problem with the pocket passer but he showed right there on that last series he scrambled for about 1520 yards at one time to get a first down get in Rogers territory. And then on the eventual game winning touchdown to Graves, he rolled right and his receiver was going to the middle and then he turned when he saw his quarterback rolling right, he rolled right and Drake, man, he showed some versatility, some agility. And I know a lot of coaches fall in love with the run pass option kind of quarterbacks. But this kid he's a big kid at 65. He can ward off some of the defenders. He can just push them over with his hand. Get off me, boy. And he can move some. So just to categorize him as a pocket stand in a pocket kind of guy. No, he showed there that he can move and he can extend plays and make plays. [00:09:26] Speaker A: Yeah. So Fayetteville gets the big win and they improved to five. And Rogers, man, they got a really good offense. We talk about defensively. Yeah, they gave up a lot of yards and a lot of big plays. They made some plays, too. I mean, for a while there, Rogers was in control of the game and they had gotten a couple of stops and just a couple of breaks. And maybe we're talking about the Mounties winning this game, too, just up the road on I 49 over in Bentonville. Bentonville and Southside really had a shootout, too. Leland, 50 to 38, probably a little bit different kind of a shootout than what we saw in Fayetteville, but still, nonetheless, 85 points being scored. A lot of yards, again, for both offenses. And this looks like another fun seven, a west ball game. [00:10:19] Speaker C: Well, again, over 1000 yards of offense. So it's just wow. Carter and I, 481 yards passing, six touchdowns. He's got his name in the record book now, and I don't know, has anybody been able to guard CJ. Brown all season? [00:10:37] Speaker A: Yes, there was one. Bentonville Rockhurst. Shut him down. He had two catches for maybe 24 yards. He has responded the last couple of weeks. [00:10:51] Speaker C: Yeah, he had seven catches for 215 and touchdown catches of 75 and 66 yards. Southside still was able to run the ball some 43 carries for 279. And that looks good. But this is a South Side team that the first two games of the season had over 400 yards rushing. So a great job by Bentonville's defense, too, to be able to hold them to 279 yards on the ground. [00:11:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Coming into this one, I felt like South Side was going to be able to score some points. They're just really good offensive football team. But Bentonville has got some weapons. And Coach Damron and Henry story just said it's just hard for us to match up with these guys. And that may be the case for some of these other seven A West teams down the road and looking just a little bit ahead. Not this week, but next week. We do have Bentonville and Fayetteville Rick. [00:11:53] Speaker D: But Fayetteville's got to take care of business this week. [00:11:57] Speaker A: Well, that's true, because they're going to be heading down the mountain, as we say up here. They're heading down the mountain into the River Valley. And we'll talk more a little bit about that one a little bit later in the show. Bentonville west got back on the winning column. They beat springdale Wednesday. [00:12:16] Speaker D: Their quarterback only had five touchdown passes. Man, what's going on? 254 yards and only five touchdown passes. I'm kidding. For sure. [00:12:27] Speaker A: Yeah, springdale had 343 Russian yards. They just didn't quite have enough efficiency, I guess, against Bentonville West or couldn't slow them down again, though. Another high scoring ball. We I thought that one could go the high scoring route. I thought maybe Springdale would score a few more points than they did. [00:12:53] Speaker D: I just changed the rules since the game is involved. So just first to 51st team to 50 points wins. [00:13:00] Speaker A: Right. [00:13:01] Speaker D: Because they're at 47, 42, 47. [00:13:03] Speaker C: Wow. [00:13:04] Speaker A: These are kind of like video game numbers a little bit. [00:13:07] Speaker C: Yes. [00:13:07] Speaker A: And then Springdale Harbor gets a very lopsided win against Rogers Heritage. They were up 54 to zero at the half. And that was Coach Brent Eckley first win at Springdale High. I got to visit with him on Saturday morning. I think everybody was kind of relieved to get that one off their back. [00:13:29] Speaker D: Especially after the rough schedule they played. They had awfully tough schedule. [00:13:34] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know how you could have made it any tougher for them. When you go parkview bixby, Mustang, Oklahoma and Bentonville in the first four. [00:13:46] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:13:46] Speaker A: You find me a team that can get through that. [00:13:48] Speaker D: It deserves a. [00:13:52] Speaker A: Know now and again later in the show. We'll talk about it. But we got the Battle of Springdale coming up. This you know, in a rivalry game. It's going to be a good fun night out at harbor for that one. We're going to look at a couple of some five A West games for sure up here and in the River Valley. And then the four a one a little bit surprising. P Ridge kind of took it on the chin against Dardnell. Rick Dardnell, I kind of thought we thought P Ridge is rolling after beating Prairie Grove. Maybe they go into that home game and win. And Dardenell just took it to him. Yeah. [00:14:33] Speaker D: I don't know what happened there. I haven't seen any the live stream or anything, but, man, I am surprised by that one. And now, you know, P Ridge could go face a tough Alma team. So just when you think they're rolling, rolling, rolling. If you take the eye off the ball, the cliche right there, bad things happen. [00:14:53] Speaker A: Well, and another team that we've kind of been rolling I thought would keep rolling, but kind of ran into a bus on Friday night that's the Lincoln Wolves. They lost to Gravit. And we talked about that one last week. We thought that could be a good yeah. And Gravit gets a pick six for what ended up being the winning points. Lincoln did score late, went for two to try to tie, didn't get it. And then Grabbit recovered the onside kick and got the win. So Kelby Bohannon and the boys at Gravit, the Lions get them a big win. [00:15:27] Speaker D: You know what, I talked to Lincoln coach as one of my notes before that game. I said, man, how do you keep your kids because now Lincoln's got to play know, in parlance about people gambling, that's called a trap game. When you got a team you think you can beat, and then you don't beat them, you're looking ahead to what on paper is much tougher game. And that happens a lot. I'm not saying they looked ahead to Ozark because Gravit's really good, but, man, that puts him in a little tougher position now. [00:16:02] Speaker A: Yeah, it sure does. So as we move down to the River Valley, the conversation starts and ends with what Jackson Daley did at Alma the other night against Farmington. So, Leland, maybe you can help us put it in perspective. But you set an Alma rushing record, right, for 320 yards against a really good Farmington defense, I thought. Really scrappy farmington team. And then he passed for another 120 or 50 or whatever it was. He was our player of the week, no doubt. [00:16:35] Speaker D: Yeah. Just think how Alma's always had. They're tough, they're strong. I'm sure they've had a lot of guys rush for a lot of yards through the years, including his daddy, Adam Daley. So that was really stunning performance, wasn't. [00:16:51] Speaker C: You know, we did a story, I guess, right as the season was starting, maybe right before it started on Jackson Daly being a quarterback and how that was kind of viewed in the he's his grandfather, Marvin Daly, his nickname was Freight Train, and he played fullback and linebacker. So that tells you what kind of player he was. And of course, then his dad, Adam Daley, he had a cousin, Lee Daley, and a cousin also, Clark Moore from Van Buren. And all those guys were tough. All of them played linebacker. The Dalies also played fullback. Clark Moore was one of the best catchers to ever come through this area. So those guys were tough, hard nosed guys. And then here's Jackson, who's a quarterback. Well, I think he can now sit at the table and eat with them now, 26 carries, 320 yards and a school record also with six rushing touchdowns on runs of 5412, 76, one and nine yards. And he also completed twelve of 16 passes for 154 yards, 75 and another touchdown. So I think he can sit at the family table now and sit there very happily because his name is at the top of the record book in Alma. [00:18:20] Speaker A: And how about the know after week one, we were all kind of they have they've turned it around now. Got a big challenge this week, and we'll talk a little bit more about that here in a little bit. Greenwood takes care of Greenbriar at Smith Robinson. I don't think anybody was surprised about that one. There's some bigger games down the road for Greenwood, for sure. How about Van Buren and what they did on the road at you know, it doesn't surprise me they went down to Lake Hamilton one, but it does surprise me they went down to Lake Hamilton and Mercy ruled. [00:18:56] Speaker C: Lake Hamilton it was 42 to seven at the half. Defense, first three defensive possessions for Van Buren. They recovered a fumble, forced a punt, recovered another fumble, and made it 21 to nothing early in the second quarter. They scored two touchdowns within a two minute span of the second quarter. They scored two more touchdowns later in the second quarter and scored 35 points in the second quarter in a 49 to 28 win. [00:19:28] Speaker A: When's the last time either of you guys went to a game at Lake Hamilton? Have you ever been there? [00:19:34] Speaker D: I've never been there. [00:19:35] Speaker A: It's a really neat setting to play, and I think it's a really tough place to play, too. It's really kind of difficult to get to. Like, you got to go to Hot Springs, but you got to get a little bit outside of Hot Springs into the Piercy area. [00:19:51] Speaker D: Like on the lake? Right off the. [00:19:55] Speaker A: Lake. It's close, but you can't really see it from there. But they got this big brand new arena that's like right the it. They run the football. But, man, and Tommy Gilloran, he's been one of the best coaches, I think, in the Six A West for the last several years. That program has been really strong. Those are the biggest storylines of the weekend, I think. And so now we kind of look ahead to this week's games, and we're going to start in the Seven A West. Rick and the Battle of Springdale is not a matchup of two teams that are both at the top of the league, but it is a really big game for both of them because we talk about teams that are fighting for playoff spots. These are two teams that are in that kind of position. The winner is certainly going to be in a better spot because they both won a conference game. Both of them have beaten Heritage, but they both have to do it a little bit differently. Springdale's been running that. It's not the triple option. [00:21:05] Speaker D: It's power football. [00:21:06] Speaker A: Yeah, the Flex Bone and harbor is throwing it all over the field, and they got a really good, strong running game and really good offense overall. So I know you've covered this game if you've probably been at this game a few times and over at Wildcat Stadium on Friday. It's going to be a battle. I mean, it always is in a rivalry game. [00:21:26] Speaker D: Well, these are springdale kids, Amanda. They see each other all the time, even though they go to different schools. They may pal around and everything, but that's who you want to be. You want to beat your neighbor down the road. Oh, I go to Springdale. Harbor. Yeah, big deal. I go to Springdale. All right, let's get on the field and settle this. So that's who you want to be. I think I mentioned before you'd like to win out of state games, but, man, it means so much to these kids that walk around town the whole year and say, boy, we went to the playoffs and we won two games. Yeah, but we beat you all. So what? So that's really personal to these guys. It's not the big time rivalry like when it was springdale high against Fable. But this is important. These kids I've been assigned that game, and I look forward to it. [00:22:16] Speaker A: Another game, another big game. In the seven a west is going to be Bentonville West at Rogers. A couple of one in one teams in the league. And Rogers has kind of been through the wringer here. The first two games. They've had some battles, so we'll see how the Mounties roll in. They haven't been at home in a while either. I haven't played a home game, I think since week two or three. They're going to play a Benville West team that can certainly score some points. And I know kind of the message that is going to be going around for both these teams that they both probably feel like they got a chance to get this, uh, for sure, down the River Valley. Fayetteville is going to have to take the show on the road to, you know, just like we talked about with Rogers, the Mavericks have kind of been through the wringer here to open up conference play, and it doesn't get any easier this week. Leland, with Fayetteville coming in, probably another chance for a high scoring game. But I think the question I've got is, can that south side running game figure out a way to run the ball against Fayetteville? [00:23:25] Speaker C: Well, and like you said, that front four, maybe the front seven, really, for Fayetteville is so, you know, both of these teams, Fayetteville and Southside, are kind of in the same position, maybe in opposite ends, because Southside, of course, is coming off two tough games. Well, now they kind of face a must win game. Maybe not a must win, but they'd certainly like to come out of this three game stretch with at least one win. Well, now Fayetteville has to kind of they have to hit the road and play a very good Southside team after coming off that big emotional win over Rogers, the battle of two unbeatens. So in the Seven A West, nobody gets to take very much time off, and they've got to go back to the drawing board. But yes, can Southside run the ball effectively against Fayetteville? And also, can Southside slow down Fayetteville's offense? I think that's the two big things in that game. [00:24:26] Speaker A: We'll see what happens from Jim Rowland stadium. Walter Woody will be on the assignment there for our papers. Rogers Heritage will be at Bentonville. Bentonville will be heavily favored to win that one. Fort Smith northside at Jonesboro. So, Leland, you got to see the Grizzlies get a win last week against Little Rock Central. That's a long trip from Northside to Jonesboro. So we'll just see what happens over there. With that one. [00:24:59] Speaker C: Yeah, I have no feel for that game at this point. Northside had a great third quarter. They easily won over Central to go 42 to 13. So have they kind of found their offensive stride now? I don't know. Jonesboro. They lost to Bryant. It ended up being pretty big. I think it was 42 to 14. But it was a one score game at the half. So which of these teams and what half of football will they be able to put together on Friday night? And it is at Jonesboro. And you're right, that's an extremely I mean, you think about Northside traveling to Jonesboro from one side of the state to another corner of the state, and it's a conference game. [00:25:54] Speaker D: Hey, Lena, I've made that when I lived in Fort Smith. I'm from Northeast Arkansas. You're going from the Arkansas river over here almost all the way over to the Mississippi River. That's how far that and it's not easy to get there either. You can go 40, then you got to get up 65, then you got to go 555, then you got to get into Jonesboro and find a high school. So that is a really difficult trip. And if north side comes away with a win over there, not that Jonesboro is not a great team, but they're a good team, but if they come away with the win after making that long trip, they'll deserve a lot of credit. [00:26:35] Speaker A: Yeah. Leland, you'll be in the six A. West. You'll be at the Russellville Van Buren game. And I know that has all the potential probably for a fun game. I think one of the games that I thought would be a good one is going to be Alma At. So, you know, one can Alma keep up the good string of play that they've had, and two can P Ridge get back off the deck and get back because I like to think they're a better team than what they showed on Friday night. Didn't really play well against Dardanelle, and they're going to play an Alma team that is really rolling right now. So again, we'll just see what happens. [00:27:20] Speaker D: I think last week I talked about P Ridge's surprise team in our area. Then they lose the Darden, so they look a little bit vulnerable, but like, you know, see if you can get home and straighten some things. [00:27:32] Speaker A: Know? Shiloh Christians making the trip over to Harrison on Friday. That's going to be a good one. You just don't walk into FS scary. You don't walk into crooked Creek and go mess around the goblins like that. So we'll see about it. In the four a one ozark at Lincoln. We already talked about that one. Was Lincoln looking ahead? I don't know, but I'm sure they've got Ozark's attention this week for sure. Absolutely. And then there's a full schedule of games, folks. But then there's one game in the three a one. I'm looking at. And Leland, I want you to chime in here too. Mansfield at Charleston. So you're looking at a five and O, Mansfield team playing the poor two and three Charleston Tigers. But records could be deceiving, I think. [00:28:27] Speaker C: Oh, absolutely. I mean, Charleston's still the defending three A state champions, and they're still very good. You look at the three games they played non conference and just throw that out. All that was was a learning experience for a very young Charleston team because they lost to Elkins, Ozark, and Nashville. All three of those are four A schools, and they're a combined twelve and three, those three schools. So just forget about the fact that Charleston went Owen three in those three games. Forget it. That was just some on the job training for some very young some pups that the Tigers are bringing along. So don't put anything into that record. Now, Mansfield is five, and for the first time in, I think it's six years, which I put in my capsule. And they're very good. They're very good. I'll touch on them a little bit later. But that is the game of the week in the three A one. [00:29:34] Speaker A: Yes, sir. And a lot of big games still to come. All right, we are going to take a little break, and when we get back, we will go with our top five of the week. Graham Thomas and Rick Fires here in Fayetteville in the studio and Leland Barclays in the River Valley. And gentlemen, we're going to jump into the weekly top five, and we're going to throw things a little differently this week. We're going to let Leland start us off. [00:30:43] Speaker C: Well, I didn't even try to narrow mine down to five. I'm just going to start with seven A in the River Valley because what a week of football it was. Northside, of course, 42 to 13 over Central. But Northside had 63 yards of offense in the first half, three first downs on 28 offensive plays, but they still had seven to six. They get the second half kickoff, they're driving. Central recovers a fumble, takes it in for a touchdown, and they're up 13 to seven early in the third quarter. Northside then scored six touchdowns, or four touchdowns within a six minute span of the third quarter to take command. [00:31:23] Speaker A: Wow. [00:31:24] Speaker C: Northside had 30 offensive plays for 263 yards in the third quarter. And McLean Moody was twelve of 25 for 258 and three. Touchdowns just in the third quarter. [00:31:38] Speaker A: That's amazing. [00:31:42] Speaker C: Northside recovered an onside kick and they also recovered a pooch kick that just hit the ground. And Northside was the first one there to pick it up. And what an offensive performance, or at least what, a quarter for Northside. And of course, then in six, A van Buren goes down to Lake Hamilton, wins 49 to 28. Van Buren scored 35 points just in the second quarter. They also got a fumble return. So it was an offensive defensive effort by Van Buren. Also in six, A Greenwood took care of Greenbriar 35 to seven with their fifth straight mercy rule. And then in four, A Lamar goes to Haskell Harmony Grove and they get a field goal. It's 14 to 14 at the half. Late in the game, it's still 14 to 14. They line up to kick a 35 yard field goal and it hits one of their offensive linemen and the officials blow the play dead, which it's a live ball, so they go and explain it to both sides. And by rule, Lamar can either take the ball there or replay the down. So they line up and then kick a 35 yard field goal to basically win the game. And then they get an interception late. But Louis Balmer kicked a 35 yard field goal on a second attempt and they win 17 to 14. [00:33:16] Speaker A: So was it fourth down when they kicked it? [00:33:18] Speaker C: Yes, it was fourth down, but it's a live ball and the officials blew the play. It was an inadvertent whistle which blew the play dead. [00:33:27] Speaker A: I got you. [00:33:28] Speaker C: So by definition, the offense gets to choose. You can either take the ball there and replay the down or, well, replay the down. Yeah, and no penalty or anything like that. And then, of course, Five A Alma 56 to 35 with the big performance by Jackson Daley. But I'm saving the best for last. In the three A one, Hackett was down 35 to seven in the second quarter. They come back and win 42 to 35. They scored two touchdowns at the end of the second quarter, scored another one in the third quarter and then scored two, including a cold catch, a 1 YD run with 245 left to win that game 42 to 35 after being down 35 to seven in the second quarter. [00:34:21] Speaker D: That was against who they beat. [00:34:23] Speaker A: Lavaca. [00:34:24] Speaker C: Right, Lavaca. Which was a big win. Lavaca was up 35 to seven. Hackett had two late turnovers, forced two late turnovers, one of them to set up the touchdown and then the other one to preserve the win. And then the Mansfield went to Greenland and won 65 to nothing. They were up 30 to nothing after the first quarter. 51 to nothing with 851 left in the second quarter. Led 58 to nothing at the half, had three running backs over 100 yards. They, too are running kind of the flexbone. Had three running backs over 100 yards and won 65 to nothing to set up that big game this week against Charleston. All right, so I don't know how many that was, but that was I don't know. [00:35:10] Speaker A: I enjoyed it, though. [00:35:11] Speaker C: That's a lot of maybe that was the River Valley in three minutes. [00:35:16] Speaker A: All right, well, everybody be sure and tune into the River Valley Report. You're going to hear a lot more details on probably a lot of the same stuff Leland just talked about, so be sure and look for that. How about this in Six A and below? Well, I'm just taking a really alternate route this week because there's just a lot here that I wanted to get. [00:35:36] Speaker D: You're taking the scenic route since we're getting into Fall? [00:35:39] Speaker A: Yeah, well, something like that. There's a lot going on. There's been golf, there's volleyball, some cross country stuff. So I'm just going to start. I got to cover the Six A Girls Golf state tournament here last week at Springdale Country Club, and two significant things come out of that. One is harbor's senior Charlie Horton wins the overall tournament. She shoots a 76 one day, a 77 the next day, for a two day total of 153 as a Six A individual state champion honor Home. Course, you couldn't have it any better. I mean, just a great job by Charlie Horton. And Coach Tim Rippy, who I know real well, he was really happy for her as well. And the really cool thing was this is that Springdale Country Club, which is where harbor plays, and all the folks there just were so happy for mean, just really cool deal. Like our girl, our player. Yeah, this is our, you know harbor girls were three time defending state champions coming in. They finished 7th, I think, but they did make it to the second day. But for a harbor girl to win, it was really special. Now, the first day of the tournament doubled as the Six A West Conference tournament. And all year long it's common. Rogers and Fayetteville and then the Six A West, when they would have all the teams in to play a tournament or something. Rogers, Fayetteville how about the Bentonville girls coming out of nowhere and winning the conference title? I thought that was a really cool story. Coach Lindsay Davis and her team, they didn't have anybody shoot super low, but they were all kind of just where they needed to be to make that work. And they won the conference championship and was just a really cool deal. Over in Siloam Springs on Thursday night of last week, I got to watch a real barn burner of a volleyball game between Silent Springs and Mountain Home. Salem Springs is up 20. Mountain Home comes back and wins the next two. Salem Springs wins the third set or wins the fifth set for a three two win. Haley Thomas, no relation, but I'd claim her if I could. 47 assists the setter and she plays on one of the Ozark Juniors teams over here. That's been really good. She's a good player. 47 assists. And then Jetta Brokhard, who's also a really good soccer player, had a career high 24 kills in that win for the Lady Panthers, who they've been down a little bit, Rick. They used to be so good. Win all those state titles with a coach cheek. Been down a little bit. They're trying to get back up and play in a really tough league. We talked about the Gravit Lincoln game, the football game, that is, and grabbit with the 36 34 win. How about this? Freshman Joseph Beam returns an interception, 24 yards for a touchdown that puts Gravit in front 36 to 28 late in the game and ends up being the winning point margin. So how about that? [00:39:06] Speaker D: A freshman, freshman, big man on campus this week. [00:39:09] Speaker A: Yes, we're going to keep it on the west side of Benton County, which the Gentry pioneers with another 500 yards of offense and a win against, I believe it was Huntsville this last week. And then they'll get Green Forest this week and probably have a chance. They could just really move the football. There have a lot of offensive weapons and little plug here. We got a story coming later in the week on Addie Taylor of Gentry, who's a senior. Guys like Cordell Stewart, he can play receiver, he can play running back, he can play quarterback. He can do he can do it all. So looking forward to being able to do that one later in the week and last over at the Chili Pepper. We're going to take it down to the junior high ranks here, but I noticed that Maggie Bishop, an 8th grader at Providence Academy, finished first in the middle school girls race. There were something like 440 girls in that race. And Maggie, this was a two K. Not a two mile, but a two K. Ran it in seven minutes 52.6 seconds and finished first overall. And that's my top five. [00:40:30] Speaker D: That's pretty impressive. Of all the great schools that come to Chili Pepper, I'm going to start off with cross country and Chili Pepper because that's such a huge event up here. Team, college teams from all over the country here, high school, Texas, Kansas, they all come up here. But Haley Lowe from Bentonville High School won a girls meet, set a meat record. Just think about that. Of all the Chili Peppers they had, she finished a 5000 meters race in 17 minutes, 3.1 second. I remember watching. I covered this last year. She's verbal commitment to Tennessee, and I know she's an Arkansas girl now, but she's originally from Wisconsin, so don't be too upset that she hadn't committed to the Hogs. But when I saw her last year, I knew she was big time. And she did a big time thing last Saturday. Let's go to volleyball. We can talk about Fayetteville. They're a dominant volleyball team. They've won multiple state titles. But Reagan harper got her 1000th kill. Now, this is not hunting. This is not going out and shooting a buck or something. This is a volleyball. When you go up to net, you jump over and you spike it. And if I was out there, it hit me on the head, knock me over. That's a kill right there. So that's what and she got her 1000. Fable continues to roll. And congratulations to Reagan Harper on surpassing that milestone 1000 kills. Now I got to go back to football. We've already talked about it a lot. Fable, 47 42 over Rogers big time shootout. We knew it was going to happen. Drake Lindsay, six touchdown passes. Dane Williams, rogers, six touchdown passes. But I got to point out somebody had to make a play on defense. I'm on the sideline. I said, somebody's got to make a play. We can't go 65 64 or something. And Landon Jones, he's an outside linebacker, we heard his name a lot on the PA system Friday night. And when Rogers was forced to take that safety late in the game because Landon Jones got the sack on that on Dane Williams. So he had, I think, at least three or four sacks. He was a terror coming off the edge. And when he got that sack late, that enabled Rogers fable. Get the ball back. They eventually won other quarterbacks. Carter and I. Bentonville, he had six touchdown passes, including 75 yard strike to CJ. Brown on the first place from Scrimmage, bentonville West, Dalton Rice, 254 yards, five touchdown passes and went over Spring. [00:43:12] Speaker A: Only five? [00:43:12] Speaker D: Only five. [00:43:13] Speaker A: Oh, man. Yeah, he's having a good year. [00:43:15] Speaker D: He's got to work on it a little bit, but that's all I got. Lot of offense, a lot of kids doing great things. Get out here and watch some of these kids at the high school level before they're starred in NFL or college. [00:43:28] Speaker A: Man, I'm all fired up. There's been a lot of good stuff this week, guys. Can we just head back out to the field, like right now? [00:43:36] Speaker D: Yeah, Thursday. Thursday football. [00:43:38] Speaker A: Let's go.
