I tried to kick the ball out of bounds, but I missed. But thankfully, the ball was going so fast that it went out of bounds, so it was just a safety, but I missed trying to kick the ball. [00:00:41] Speaker B: Yeah. We finally got you into studio after a year. [00:00:44] Speaker A: Yes. [00:00:45] Speaker B: Well, Cole, kind of just walk me through your season so far. You guys are on a roll already, but surprising. [00:00:51] Speaker A: It's been a really successful season for us. I mean, we're 3 0, and we just got a really big win last Friday against Lincoln Christian, who I don't think has lost a home game in 10 years. So it's been a really good year for us. But we're looking forward to the 7A conference. [00:01:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, we've talked about this before, but, I mean, you guys were pretty confident going into this year of, like, hey, you know, we're in the. I would consider the big leagues of the state and this division, but, I mean, you guys are, like, neck and neck with some of the best teams. But how does it feel to kind of just, you know, already see that through, especially with people being like, oh, do you think you can handle the 7A? [00:01:30] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it's a lot going on, and it's kind of cool because, I mean, we're watching film over these teams, and we're like, we never play these teams, and it's the best of the best. So I think if you ask a lot of our guys, we're super excited, but we don't really know what to expect just because we haven't played up in this competition. But I think. I think we'll be ready. [00:01:49] Speaker B: Do you think from actually watching, like, these teams now and actually learning, like, game tape, do you think it's collectively made everyone come, like, together more and closer? More of, like, oh, this is a new challenge for us, but we think we can win. [00:02:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Shiloh's super big on brotherhood, so I feel like everybody knows everybody, everybody's friends with everybody, and we just have to rely on each other. If somebody goes down, it's next, man up. But I mean, Obviously, going into 7A, we're like, oh, that's a big jump. But we just had to rely on each other. And from the success we've had this year, I think we're. I think we're looking forward to something. [00:02:26] Speaker B: And in your case, if the punter goes down, who's up next? [00:02:32] Speaker A: Gosh, I mean, I'm just going to say I had a punt against Lincoln Christian. I think it was my first punt. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Did you really? [00:02:37] Speaker A: And Coach Barner was like, punted away from the returner because the returner was super fast, like track speed. And I was like, okay, I. I don't aim the punt. I just kick the ball and hopefully it goes away from the returner. And I think I punt it 20 yards and it went straight out of bounds. But I'm telling you, if every other punt I've had this year, I think I was averaging like 45 to 50 yards, which is really good. And against lrca, and I'm super proud to say this, I pinned them to the 1 yard line off a punt. [00:03:06] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh, Cole. That's amazing. [00:03:08] Speaker A: I've gotten better, but it's definitely not great. [00:03:11] Speaker B: So for those who don't know, Cole is secretly, but not secretly, the starting punter for Shylon. [00:03:18] Speaker A: Yeah. It's kind of embarrassing, but, I mean, I'll do what it takes to win, so. [00:03:22] Speaker B: And also, too, what's funny is, like. I mean, like we said, I watched you in practice, like, kick a punt, and it went straight up into the sky and straight down, like maybe five yards. [00:03:32] Speaker A: Yeah. I was about to say, I think when you were there, I think it was like a five yard punt. [00:03:35] Speaker B: Yeah. And I looked at our producer and I was like, did he just punt the ball? [00:03:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:40] Speaker B: And the only reason I was shocked, too, was because normally it's your backup quarterback who's the punter. [00:03:46] Speaker A: He honestly should be. [00:03:47] Speaker B: And you're the starting role in both positions. So I was like, did he just punt it or is he just. Are they just letting him have a kick at it? [00:03:56] Speaker A: Yeah. So normally quarterbacks are the ones who hold the pats, but I started practicing it and they're like, you are so bad at holding. So then they put in our running back to actually do it. And then when they told me I was the punter, I was like, I was straight up with them. I was like, I don't know how to punt. I don't know how to kick the ball. [00:04:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:14] Speaker A: They're like, well, we still want you to be. Anyway. So I was like, okay, well, y' all cannot judge me when I'm out there, because I'm gonna try my best, but I know it's not going to be good. So. [00:04:23] Speaker B: Bro, I was judging that kick hard. [00:04:25] Speaker A: Most definitely. They were. [00:04:28] Speaker B: But yeah. So that's amazing. I'm glad being the starting pointer is working out for you, too. Dual threat for the rest of the season. But I mean, I also hope that you don't have to punt any other game. [00:04:42] Speaker A: Well, let's hope not because it's not pretty. So. [00:04:45] Speaker B: Yeah, but just in that general area, I mean, just kind of talk about Coach Barnard and just his confidence in this team and especially in this division that you guys are in this year. [00:04:58] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, he knows what's at stake and he's told us several times that we're. We're ready for this moment. And I mean, as Coach Barnard, I mean, he's. I mean, he's the best. I love Coach Barnard. I love the way how he coaches. He's super like a players coach, which I think a lot of us appreciate. And I mean, we're just so happy to have him as our head coach and looking forward to, like, going to battle with him. [00:05:22] Speaker B: Well, speaking of battles, I have to talk about it because it is. It is the most anticipated game, I feel like, of the season. [00:05:28] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:29] Speaker B: But you and Bentonville. [00:05:30] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:30] Speaker B: Yeah, that's going to be. [00:05:33] Speaker A: That's going to be a fun one. [00:05:34] Speaker B: Yeah. So kind of just talk about that because it truly is, I feel like the most anticipated game of this conference this year. [00:05:43] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of good teams in 7A, but Bentonville has been the best for super long now. And it's just an honor to be able to be the quarterback to go against Bentonville because Bentonville is. Yeah, you can cut that. Kidding. But seriously, Bentonville, I mean, they're a very good football team. They're good top to down every single player. I'm a big fan of some of the players. I love how their defense plays, and I think we're excited. And we have them at our home field, which will be a lot of fun. The environment's going to be awesome. Yes. I do wish I was kind of playing at their field because I'm like, their field's super cool and I've never obviously played there, but it's going to be a fun one in a very anticipated game that I think a lot of us will have to step up. So. [00:06:27] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, but you guys have already had like a, you know, big testament of, you know, last year you beat Greenwood in the state final, and that was a good Greenwood team. [00:06:36] Speaker A: It was a very good Greenwood team. [00:06:38] Speaker B: I Mean, I'm just gonna say it, but I don't think a lot of people expected y' all to win. Yeah, Like, I remember when you guys had your captains walk out. I think I was the only person on media team on y' all side. [00:06:50] Speaker A: I appreciate that. [00:06:50] Speaker B: I don't. I don't think you even saw that, but I was, like, the only one over there with the phone. But everyone was, like, swarmed around Greenwood, which. Yeah, it makes sense because King Archer. Yeah, that. But that team hadn't lost since they were freshmen, so. But I get it. It was kind of a very, like, redemption story. And then one of your players also had a little wiggle in the end [00:07:11] Speaker A: zone, which I was like, max Eldridge, shout out, Max. [00:07:13] Speaker B: Yeah, do that. I hope our producer puts that in. It was so funny. I don't think I've ever seen a high school football player just, like, I [00:07:20] Speaker A: wish I could ask him. I'm like, max, what are you doing? But, I mean, everybody loved it, so. [00:07:26] Speaker B: Yeah, it was. [00:07:27] Speaker A: I. [00:07:28] Speaker B: Like I said, I've never seen a high school football player just let loose like that. Yeah, it was funny. But you guys, you know, already showed, like, last game of the season in the 6A that, you know, you're forced to be reckoned with. And now this year, you guys are, too. I mean, came into the conference, I think, third overall already and hadn't even played a down in this conference. [00:07:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:48] Speaker B: So, I mean, obviously, like, this game against Bentonville is going to be huge, but, like, what are Yalls strengths as a team that, you know, hands down, like, we got it handled in this game. [00:08:00] Speaker A: I think our tempo when we go offensively, and I think our defense's physicality is unmatched. And I think we have probably the best coaches in Arkansas, so our coaches are phenomenal, and players are going to rely on them. And I think we've been through a lot of adversity and. And we know how it feels to lose. So I think we gotta rely on each other, which I think is a big strength of ours. Cause of our brotherhood culture that we have. And. [00:08:28] Speaker B: Yeah, and with you, during your football career at Shiloh, like, you kind of battled injury, but how does it feel to just go into your senior season just fully healthy and to compete in these games? [00:08:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a blessing. I mean, to not be injured so far. I mean, especially for my senior year, I'm like, it's been awesome to play with great group of guys, great group of coaches, and especially with last year, the success that we Had. And for me to just be a part of that and do everything I can was truly a blessing. And it was so much fun. [00:08:58] Speaker B: Yeah, they need their starting punter. [00:09:00] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, not the quarterback, though. [00:09:03] Speaker B: No. [00:09:03] Speaker A: Yeah, they could figure that out. [00:09:04] Speaker B: But the punter, you know, the punter makes the game. [00:09:07] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:09:08] Speaker B: If that ball wouldn't have gone on that one yard line. Yeah, yeah. [00:09:13] Speaker A: I mean, game difference, so. [00:09:15] Speaker B: Exactly. So don't sell yourself short. Starting punter. [00:09:19] Speaker A: Well, I was really scared because we went against Heritage hall, week zero, and for the first punt of the year, I'm back there and I'm probably at like our 10 yard line and my long snapper. I'm sorry, Max, I'm not calling you out. Snap the ball over my head. And I'm like, okay, the ball's in the end zone, so really embarrassing. I tried to kick the ball out of bounce, but I missed. But thankfully the ball was going so fast that it went out of bounds. So it was just a safety. But I missed trying to kick the ball. And then I was like, hopefully nobody saw that. But then I had a bunch of my buddies come to me after and they're like, I saw you miss when you tried to kick it out of bounds. [00:10:01] Speaker B: And I was like, yeah, gotta keep you humble. [00:10:04] Speaker A: Gotta keep me humble. Yep. [00:10:05] Speaker B: But also too random. But is there a backup punter? [00:10:09] Speaker A: I mean, obviously it's our backup quarterback. I. Yes. I mean, last year it was Griffin Mason, but obviously he's graduated. [00:10:18] Speaker B: Really? [00:10:19] Speaker A: Oh, Griffin Mason was a very good punter. No, I. Nobody would know that. But seriously, he could boot the ball. [00:10:25] Speaker B: No way. [00:10:26] Speaker A: And they still decided to go with me, which I was like. I was like, thank you, Coach Barner. [00:10:34] Speaker B: He just has so much trust in you, Cole. [00:10:37] Speaker A: I guess so. [00:10:38] Speaker B: Well, okay, we are gonna go into our round that we call Win or fumble. [00:10:43] Speaker A: Win or fumble. [00:10:44] Speaker B: Okay, these are a bunch of hot take questions. [00:10:48] Speaker A: Oh, okay. [00:10:50] Speaker B: And you must answer truthfully, or if not, you have to do the reel of my choice. [00:10:58] Speaker A: Okay. [00:10:58] Speaker B: Only the truth, which, as you know, I think the reels I choose are amazing. [00:11:04] Speaker A: Yeah, I'll probably embarrass myself on them. So I'll answer truthfully. [00:11:08] Speaker B: Oh, just you wait. We have a road trip coming out with Shiloh Christian in a few weeks and we did a few reels with those guys. And yeah, some of those reels are not, I think what you guys thought [00:11:21] Speaker A: when we were absolutely not or did [00:11:23] Speaker B: you know or did you think. I think she's like planning something. But I'm just going to Go along [00:11:27] Speaker A: for me, because I've talked to you before. I was like, she's definitely plotting something. She's definitely. But then for the other guys have, like, never talked to you, they're like, oh, it's going to be serious. It's going to be all this. And then you're like, well, let's just go in the end zone and do, like a touchdown celebration. And my friends are like, what am I doing here? [00:11:47] Speaker B: I showed you that one, though. [00:11:48] Speaker A: Like, that one you did show me. [00:11:49] Speaker B: Yeah, that one was like. But a few of the others, I don't think, you know the full context behind it. That one guy was pretty confident about it. Number two, I think. [00:11:57] Speaker A: Oh, Cohen, Yeah, Cohen. [00:11:59] Speaker B: Yeah, he was pretty confident about it. Like, oh, yeah. I'm like, I don't think he really. Because for one of the videos, he was like, oh, I've. I've, you know, seen this or whatever. [00:12:09] Speaker A: Cohen in front of the camera, and anything he can do to, like, be on the camera, he's really good at. [00:12:14] Speaker B: So, yeah, but he was pretty confident about one of them. And I was like, boy, that's not what you think this is. But he was pretty confident. [00:13:41] Speaker A: Essentially, I think that's false. First of all, I'd ask them to be like, why aren't we going for it. If it's 4th and 1, but, I mean, if they have that much trust in me, then I guess. But they will not have a good night's sleep. [00:13:56] Speaker B: So. Insomnia. [00:13:58] Speaker A: Yes. [00:13:59] Speaker B: Hey, don't sell yourself short. I'm sure it's fine. [00:14:04] Speaker A: Totally. [00:14:05] Speaker B: Okay. Deep down, punters hate routine. Hate routine punning and actively pray for a botched snap so that they can try to make a heroic play. [00:14:17] Speaker A: No, Absolutely not. [00:14:19] Speaker B: He's so for real, though. [00:14:20] Speaker A: No. Well, I'm like, I hope he does the snap the ball back, because first of all, if I'm turned in my back trying to get the ball, there's dudes flying at me trying to kill me. So I'm like, I hope it's a good snap. Good punt every time. [00:14:34] Speaker B: Okay. We're not gonna, like, diss any teams. I'm not gonna say any names. But, like, if it was against a not so good team, though, I think [00:14:42] Speaker A: it would look really cool. [00:14:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:44] Speaker A: See, but, like, I don't know. I just. [00:14:47] Speaker B: I feel like when I said that you were thinking of, like, oh, competitive, elite game. [00:14:51] Speaker A: Yeah, I was. I mean, I think it would look cool, but I rather do something better at quarterback than punter because, like, if there's a highlight reel and it's me at punter, I'm like, no, I'm never showing that I'm a punter. [00:15:10] Speaker A: If that was posted, everybody would be like, they would tell the returner, scoot up 20 yards, that you're only 20 yards away. [00:15:18] Speaker B: It was just so funny. I was. I mean, I'm glad that's not how it looked in the game for you. [00:15:24] Speaker A: It's actually, I swear. And I've told everybody this. I'm a better punter in game. Except for the last punt I had, I was like, what am I doing? [00:15:38] Speaker B: That reminded me of that one meme where it's like, you know, everybody in my class is great except one little boy. [00:16:07] Speaker A: If I'm being honest, I don't understand, like, a hype up speech by the coach. Coach Barnard, I think, would say the same thing. Like, he doesn't really hype us up. [00:16:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:18] Speaker A: So I'm not really A fan of it, because I kind of like, I stay cool, kind of just stay in the moment and don't get super, like, round up. [00:16:26] Speaker B: Because he doesn't hype you up. Like, is. He's just like, let's go get it. [00:16:31] Speaker A: No, I mean, he tells us some things, but normally if there was somebody to hype us up, it would be a different coach. That's not how Coach Barnard rolls. He's kind of just like, this is what we need to do to win. Everybody go out and execute and let's go play ball. [00:16:45] Speaker B: So, yeah, also, too. Have you seen those memes where people are just standing there in the reel and it's like trying to listen to coach when the music's blasting at practice? [00:16:54] Speaker A: I think I have seen that. [00:16:55] Speaker B: You know, like, when the game noise is like going crazy and like the music and then a coach is trying to give you a high up spot. Are you really paying attention? [00:17:02] Speaker A: Absolutely not. No. And that's truthful. So. [00:17:06] Speaker B: So if you see those hype videos and we just see you standing there, Coach is like, we know you're not paying attention. [00:17:12] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:17:13] Speaker B: What are you thinking about [00:17:17] Speaker A: the game? I guess the game. And then I'm like, trying to process, like, what's going to happen on this play. What's going to happen on this play if we're going to have the ball first? Because half the time I don't know. Yeah. [00:17:30] Speaker B: So do you think, like, game speeches are pointless? [00:17:33] Speaker A: Absolutely. Wow. I mean, actually like, a hype up speech. Yes, a game speech, I guess. I mean, it's kind of nice to like, refresh and be like, we got to do this. We got to do this instead of just going out there and playing. [00:17:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:49] Speaker A: Like, when our defensive coordinator comes in, offensive coordinator, then head coach, they kind of like, just tell us, oh, we're gonna do this. This is what we're gonna do. And that's. I mean, it's helpful. [00:17:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:59] Speaker A: But then I'm also like, the hype up speech. [00:18:01] Speaker B: No, you needed a Bentonville's frozen hype up speech. Right? [00:18:06] Speaker A: Oh, what is that? [00:18:07] Speaker B: You don't know? Yeah. Oh, that may or may not have been my idea. [00:18:26] Speaker A: Pre game speech, too. I bet that got them fired up. [00:18:28] Speaker B: We love Coach Grant. I mean, the second we got to Beville to like, do reels, he was like, yeah, ran. He had some pep in his Step back into his office. Okay. This one's so dumb. Okay, would you rather have Taylor Swift design your game winning two point conversion or call your mom from the huddle? [00:18:55] Speaker A: Call my mom from the huddle. Yeah, it's just, I mean, I'm not a Taylor Swift fan and I mean, calling my mom from the huddle sounds like very dumb, but I'd probably rather do that than have the Taylor Swift thing. [00:19:09] Speaker B: Well, you only have the two options, like who's going to, you know, I mean, but her husband is like that one guy, Travis Kelsey. I'm just kidding. I knew who it was. [00:19:21] Speaker A: Not a fan of him either. I mean, he is a great player, but. [00:19:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:25] Speaker A: I don't know, I feel like every time he catches the ball or he has the ball in his hands, they show Taylor Swift and I'm like, she's not a part of football. So. [00:19:32] Speaker B: Yeah, No, I agree. Okay. Yeah. I mean, moms know best. [00:19:38] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. [00:19:40] Speaker B: Okay. Do you wear a sleeve when you're playing at quarterback? [00:19:44] Speaker A: No, I used to. [00:19:45] Speaker B: Oh. [00:19:46] Speaker A: But then I had a very bad game and I never wore it again because I'm not like, I don't wear a lot of accessories. Like, I really don't. Like, I'm telling you, I have to wear a knee brace and it's very embarrassing and I wish I didn't have to wear it, but I have to wear it. So. [00:20:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:20:06] Speaker A: Arm sleeve. No, I don't really like anything on my throwing arm especially. Don't like it. [00:20:12] Speaker B: Well, speaking of accessories, a sleeve I feel like is aesthetic, but two sleeves is a conspiracy theory. You see, a quarterback with two sleeves can't be trusted. [00:20:24] Speaker A: No, I don't understand that. Just wear long sleeves at that point. What's the point of two sleeves? Just wear long sleeves if you want to do that. Like, it's just a cut off from like here to here. And I don't get. I don't get that. [00:20:38] Speaker B: I feel like at that point it's just trying to be aesthetic. Right, exactly. Do you think you have like hydration people on the team? Like, right? [00:20:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:48] Speaker B: Okay. Do you think like the waterboy is like the most like critical position of any team? [00:20:56] Speaker A: Most critical? No, but they're very beneficial. I mean, we need them. Absolutely. Because we've been practicing our indoor. Cause it's been so hot outside and our indoor feels like 98 degrees. So every time we go in we're like, where's our water? So, I mean, yes, super helpful. Shout out the water, girls. [00:21:17] Speaker B: And yeah, I mean, also shout out. I don't even know his Name. But there was this water boy at, like, the first Razorback game, and he was like, hustle and bustle. I was like, yeah. I was like. He was hustling more than the players. I was, like, going to all the refs and stuff like that. I'm like, put him in. [00:21:34] Speaker A: Exactly. Put him in. [00:21:35] Speaker B: You know just how, like, you know, fans can become punters. You know, water boys can become receivers. [00:21:40] Speaker A: Yep. I guess the punter joke will never die. [00:21:43] Speaker B: No, once. Once we found that out, Cole, like, that's. [00:21:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Yep. [00:21:47] Speaker B: You're gonna live in that your senior year. Okay. Oh, okay. Media train. Media training is too safe. Like, athletes should be allowed to use the I'm just here so I don't get fined button on demand. [00:22:09] Speaker A: I feel like. I don't know. I kind of like it when the athletes are interviewed. Do I feel like, whoa. Do I feel like that they should be interviewed after a loss? [00:22:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:17] Speaker A: No. Like, that sucks, because, I mean, everybody wants to win, so I'm like, yeah, I don't want to be interviewed after a loss. [00:22:23] Speaker B: Do you try in interviews, like, when they. Because obviously you've been interviewed when you've lost. Right. Or do people try to, like, avoid that? [00:22:33] Speaker A: They try to avoid, but, I mean, sometimes I have, like, not so good game, and they still come up to me and they're like, oh, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I'm, like, super dry. I'm like, I'm trying to get out of here, but I don't. [00:22:46] Speaker B: So you should be able to say that. [00:22:47] Speaker A: I think you should. [00:22:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I do. Even at the high school level, I think you should be able to be like, I just. I just really need to get inside with the team. [00:22:56] Speaker A: Exactly. And especially, like, when I see, like, the NFL games at college and they interview the coaches at halftime, I'm like, they gotta go be a coach. We all are trying to interview them. And then, like, the coaches kind of come off as, like, a certain way when they're like, I'm just trying to do my job. So it kind of gives them a bad rep. So I think that they should be [00:23:13] Speaker B: able to say that, hey, if I'm getting paid millions of dollars, I'm certain. Sorry. But actually, like, if I lost, like, if I was LSU on Saturday, I'm leaving. I'm getting paid all this money. But also, too, I lost to Mike, which is former team. Like, I'm leaving. I thought that was really tough because I think we went up by, like, three or four scores against Greenwood, and that was kind of like the ice. Cause I'm a big golfer, I love golfing. And I'll act like I hit a drive if it's a good punt, but if it's a bad punt, I'll just try to run off the field. So nobody saw that I was back there. [00:26:26] Speaker B: Now that you're telling us this, I'm just gonna, like, hound you for it. If you do end up pun, I'm just gonna be like, ah. Is he gonna run or is he gonna. [00:27:41] Speaker A: I can't think of a specific moment, but if we're up by 40 points against this team that we know, it's just not good. And they're like, we gotta come out better than what we did the first half. I'm like, I don't think there's much better we can do. I'm like, we did our job and we were great. And I guess I understand, like, don't let up or don't let the bad team come back. But I'm like, if they're that bad and y' all are telling us to, like, be focused, stay ready. I'm like, y' all Are probably gonna give me one or two more drives and then pull me. So I'm like, I don't really believe in that as much, but you should [00:28:17] Speaker B: like, Zuba to my face.
