Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome back to the Prep Rally Podcast. We're gonna dive straight into basketball season here in the Northwest Arkansas and River Valley. I'm your host, Sydney Ruth Mulvaned.
[00:00:11] Speaker B: I'm Graham Thomas. Leland Barclay joins us in the River Valley.
We've got big matchups, standout performances. We're breaking down all the action from the first week of conference play, and.
[00:00:22] Speaker A: Of course, we're counting down our top five in. Gimme five. The best performers across the region.
So let's kick things off. Graham, Welcome back. Let's go ahead and recap some previous games.
[00:00:53] Speaker B: Okay, well, let's just go back to Friday night, Sydney. It was a.
For the 6A west purposes, it was the third game of the conference slate. So they got started on the Saturday after New Year's, played again Tuesday, and now we're already three games in. It kind of. It goes by fast when you start, you know, stacking these games up, but double the games.
I really want to talk about the. The showdown in.
In Springdale at Wildcat Arena. Harbor and Fayetteville, always a huge matchup. It's been that way the last couple of years in both boys and girls.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:01:27] Speaker B: And, you know, you being a former Fayetteville person, can. Can appreciate the. The rivalry with Harbor.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: I will say I. I do, but, you know, I do. I will admit I do like the harbor basketball team. They're not too bad.
[00:01:40] Speaker B: Okay, well, I don't know how to. How to respond to that city, other than to say it was a big game on Friday with Harbor and Fayetteville and it was a split. So the harbor girls, we thought that would be a really big matchup with Fable. The score did not maybe reflect how close of a game that could have been or should have been.
Lady Wildcats win 71 to 40 over the Lady Purple Dogs.
And, you know.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: I will say, though, they do have a former Fayetteville player on their team now.
[00:02:19] Speaker B: Well, and then that. That kind of adds to the. To the rivalry.
[00:02:22] Speaker A: Rivalry.
[00:02:23] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:02:23] Speaker B: You know, a really good player like Snyder coachman leaves Fayetteville and joins the harbor team, which is already really good. And now they had a good piece like that.
And. But it was, you know, the Lady Wildcats with the big win, and they kind of have.
Them and Fort Smith north side have kind of moved into the forefront on the girls side in the 6A West.
Then in the boys game, what a showdown. You know, Fayetteville boys come up with a 60 to 57 win against Harbor. And, you know, harbor have been kind of rolling. I mean, they had. They had won some big tournament games. They were I think 12 and 3 at this point. And you know, Fayetteville had their records. Not real, real good. It's 7 and 9, but now they're 2 and oh in league play.
And so that was a huge win for Fayetteville.
[00:03:12] Speaker A: I will say it was a bit of a change up because we were at the Harbor Bentonville west game and I mean, that was a showdown. That was a great.
[00:03:18] Speaker B: That was on Tuesday.
[00:03:19] Speaker A: Yes. See, that's the thing with basketball. There's double the game. So you're talking about the Fable harbor game. And I'm like, my mind's still on the Harbor Bentonville game. One game a week.
[00:03:28] Speaker B: But that was another game on the boys side where we were, we were wanting to see like, well, who was going to kind of separate themselves here early. And it was a good game and harbor won it. Then they had to win another big game and Fayetteville got them.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: So it was just very surprising because Jabari Washington, I think he had like 20 points in that Harbor Bentonville west game. I mean, he was on fire. So to come around three days later and then the win for Fayetteville, I mean, let's go Purple Dogs. But at the same time, it was, it was a little bit of a switch up for how fast that kind.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: Of went down, you know, and everybody wants to ask. I'm sure Leland gets this too. Well, who's, who's the team to watch? Who's the good teams?
[00:04:07] Speaker A: We're all trying to figure that out in basketball. I feel like you never really know. It's so fast paced that one moment someone's, someone's. Someone can win even though their record is just, you know, not that great so far.
[00:04:20] Speaker B: One thing we do know is the two teams from Farmington are pretty good. Leland got a firsthand look at those, those two teams last Friday.
[00:04:29] Speaker C: Yeah, I think in the 5A west, it's, you know, I, at this point, two games into the conference season, both Farmington teams look very good. I mean, obviously, you know, Easton McCullough is a generational type player. Had 31 points against album on Friday night and really didn't have her best game of the year. I think she was 11 of 27 from the floor. But she has a great supporting cast, even though she's the only returning starter. She started as a, you know, as a, as a freshman last year with four seniors. But I tell you, they, they have a very good supporting cast as well and they're very balanced. McCulloughs you know, distributes the ball very well.
Great inside game with a 6 footer and 5 11.
And then of course the boys man, Eli Schwarzman, 18 assist on Friday night against Alma. He's got a great supporting cast as well, guys all around him and you know, he set a conference record with those 18 assists and it was, it was legit. I mean he, he was dishing. Now the other part of that is those guys have to finish and they have guys that can finish so they look very good.
And then you go back to harbor and you know, boy, adding Sinai Coachman to what was already going to be a very good team.
So, you know, to go along with the Campbell sisters. So, you know, they're very, you know, they're off to a great start. And then the Fort Smith Northside Lady Bears off to a three and oh start as well with Cameron Schmidt. And you know, it's, it's going to be an exciting season for sure in a 16 game conference schedule that every single coach I've talked to, they call it a grind.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: It is absolutely a grind. And I'm glad you mentioned Northside Leland because you know, they're the defending state champions. If you guys remember, they were the third seed out of the conference last year and you know, that just shows you how good that conference is.
[00:06:29] Speaker C: The fifth very good league as well. Last year, you know, Springdale, the Lady Bulldogs won their first conference title ever.
You know, so. And they have a lot of players coming back. You know, Charlene Hudson's obviously one of the top players in the league. One of the top players in the state, so. Wow. You know, it's just, it's going to be a very fun final few weeks of the season. Hopefully we get through it unscathed by the weather, you know.
[00:06:56] Speaker A: Sorry. Well, I hope, I hope Fayetteville can turn it back around for this game against north side this Tuesday because that's a, that's a rematch of the state final last year, so. Oh, I personally I, I'd like to see it be a close game.
[00:07:09] Speaker B: I would bet. You know, if, if Coach Rimmer brought the girls in either on Saturday or Sunday, I'm sure they had a good, really good practice session. I know they'll have a good one on Monday. Today here they'll be ready for north side and they'll be, I think too.
[00:07:25] Speaker C: You know, Ricky Smith will be the first one to tell you, you know, they have such a long history of wins. You know, Ricky Smith's about ready to hit another milestone in a, in a couple of weeks, probably.
But I think one thing, like his 80th birthday or something, the Lady Bears get everybody's best shot, so they expect that. And that's the way it usually is.
[00:07:48] Speaker B: You know, we talk about in this conference on the boys side and the girls side and in the 5A west really too. You think about.
Sometimes you think about players like, who are really good players. Well, for the Fayetteville boys, they've got DJ Hudson back. You know, he was there as a sophomore. He was at Springdale as a junior. Now he's back at Fayetteville. And I know their record doesn't look like much right now, but they've got him. And when he's on the floor, there's often time he's going to be the best player out there and he'll give them a chance to win because he's just such a good player.
[00:08:19] Speaker A: Well, you know, I'm just going to bring this up, but one of the things I found, like the craziest having, you know, covered these sports the past year is that I meet so many athletes who are like, oh, yeah, the year previous I was at this school or the next year they're at this school. You couldn't do that. Like, I graduated in 2018. You couldn't really do that then.
[00:08:38] Speaker B: It is a, it is a new era of. And you're exactly right.
[00:08:42] Speaker A: I don't like it. You're in high school, be in one place, put your head down, work hard, you know, because you're not on a winning team. Okay. You know, you're going to get recruited more. You know, I don't know. Just.
[00:08:54] Speaker B: And that's, you know, and the coaches.
[00:08:57] Speaker A: Don'T bring college into high school.
[00:08:59] Speaker B: The coaches will tell you, most of them, they are desperate for some litigation that will help maybe limit those. Transfer. It used to be when you transfer, you had to sit out. Well, now, you know, it's just.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: I just think it's. I just think it's.
[00:09:16] Speaker B: There's a lot of gray area is what I'm.
[00:09:18] Speaker A: Well, it's sad because, like, I'm gonna admit, like, I mean, Sanaya Coachman being on harbor now, like, I mean, that's not an easy thing for your former team to go against somebody. And I, like I said, I, I don't like seeing college being, you know, translated into high school like this.
It's just like, you know, I, at that point, I can't keep up because someone's going to transfer next year or maybe now, you know, back in semester.
[00:09:40] Speaker B: Back in the Day. You know, used to be you had to make a bona fide move and that was kind of the determining factor.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: Now it's just not. It's just a little muddy, right, Leland?
[00:09:51] Speaker C: Oh, absolutely.
Unfortunately, the, the Portal has hit high school sports. In fact, when college football crowns its national champion, and I say college football, I, I use that term extremely loosely.
I'm going to be calling it from now on the 20. It'll be. They'll be the 20, 25 portal champions.
Because that's what it is now. Who can hit the Portal the best?
[00:10:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:22] Speaker B: You know, so looking back on this other, this past week, there are, you know, a lot of, A lot of teams picked up a lot of big wins. So, you know, you got Rogers being Rogers. Boys are kind of off to a good start. Van Buren's boys are off to a great start. They are 2 and oh in league play.
And they've been kind of one of my favorite stories of the season. You know, we talked about Northside girls and Fayetteville girls and Bentonville girls are, you know, you know, they're not, they've got, they've had some injury problems, but you figured they're going to be in the mix. They're just, there's so, there's so far we've got to go and we're just like right here at the very beginning of it. It's going to just be a week to week kind of thing about who's. Who's to what, who's healthy. That's another big thing, Leland. Who's healthy, who's healthy.
[00:11:09] Speaker C: But you know, earlier you were talking about Fayetteville. I think they're six and nine at this point. Six and eight, something like that.
But you talk about non conference and this is the thing about basketball.
The Greenwood Lady Bulldogs were 2 and 9 going into the new year. Now they're 2 and oh, and sitting on top of the 5A west because it's the conference games.
And he even told his players, you know, and you look at their schedule, they play basically a 6A west schedule. They also played Little Rock Central, played Bryant and they went two and nine. And it's one of those deals that I've heard coaches in the past say if they're not physically beat up and mentally beat down, man, that competition, they're not going to see competition like that the rest of the season.
So two and oh, that's all that matters right now.
[00:12:02] Speaker B: One of my favorite stories last year was Shiloh Christian boys starting like, oh, and 11, something like that and then going 14 and oh in the 4A1 conference and winning the league, making.
Winning enough games at the regional to advance to state.
And it was a great year for them to start out. Great.
[00:12:21] Speaker A: I didn't really keep up with it last year, but I can say for the Razorbacks, kind of similar story.
[00:12:26] Speaker B: Absolutely. They got up to a terrible start with 06.
[00:12:29] Speaker A: Yeah. And then, you know, people are making guesses that they would not win a single game in the SEC and then they went to the Sweet 16, so.
[00:12:35] Speaker B: Well, that's just, you know, teams can.
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Put it together, but that's how I think. That's why I'm starting to love basketball. Things can change really fast for teams.
[00:12:45] Speaker B: Well, it definitely makes for some great storylines.
[00:12:47] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:12:48] Speaker B: We're here for it all.
[00:12:51] Speaker A: With that being said, I want to take a second to thank our sponsor for the show.

[00:13:14] Speaker B: I'm always ready.
[00:13:15] Speaker A: Lee. Linear. Are you ready?
[00:13:17] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:13:18] Speaker A: Okay, on the count of three.
One, two, three.
[00:13:24] Speaker B: After all.
[00:13:25] Speaker C: After all, west pests.
[00:13:30] Speaker B: Best.
[00:13:31] Speaker C: Best.
[00:13:32] Speaker A: No.
Okay.
[00:13:34] Speaker B: We. We just can't overcome the. The. The. The zoom delay. The. The one second delay is one second.
[00:13:41] Speaker A: He's not delayed. He knows.
Look at him. He knows.
He's on his own delay.
[00:13:52] Speaker B: We'll be right back.
[00:13:54] Speaker A: Yes. When we come back, we're going to talk about the best matchups for the next upcoming week. And then we'll also be getting into our top five. And give me five. This is Prep Rally.
Welcome back to Prep Rally. Let's get into some upcoming matches.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: It's. I mean, it's a huge week. It's going to be a huge week every week going forward until March.
But, I mean, I'm looking at our slate of games. Leland. And I'm looking at Tuesday night. I'm like, golly, we're covering all these games. And then Friday is even worse. We're covering a whole whole list of them.
[00:14:38] Speaker A: So we get to cover these games. You guys. What a blessing. We get to cover these games.
[00:14:44] Speaker B: So, I mean, I think the big one we're looking at Tuesday is going to be Fort Smith Northside at Fayetteville, where we want to see if Fayetteville girls can bounce back.
[00:14:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:52] Speaker B: And maybe, maybe hand north side. Their first loss could be a, hopefully a really good environment over there.
[00:15:00] Speaker A: I Don't know. I, I, I really like the chances for this north side team, but like I said, with my love for Fayetteville.
[00:15:06] Speaker B: I hope it's close, you know, and in the boys game, I think, you know, the, the advantage goes to Fayetteville. Northside is a, a talented team, but they're just still trying to put the pieces together.
You know, that's, that's kind of our, what we think our league game is looking like. Then, you know, you have Rogers at Bentonville West. There's a lot of good matchups there on the girls side and the boys side. Bentonville west and Rogers boys are kind of our, our teams that, that are, are better than people think. And if you don't take them seriously, both of them can win ball games.
[00:15:37] Speaker A: I mean, I watched them, I watched Bentonville west against Harbor. They're a good team. I think I mentioned to Diana, though, I was like, they kind of are underrated because they make a lot of three pointers and I feel like those are underestimated a lot.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: Springdale harbor goes to Bentonville. That should be two really good games on the boys side and the girls side. Bentonville is better than people think.
They've got good players over there. They've had some injuries. The Jensen Thrasher girl, who is our, our newcomer of the year with Peyton Cottle of Fayetteville. She's been hurt. I think, you know, depending on what you hear. You think you hear she may be back. Maybe she isn't going to be back, but if she comes back into the mix, that makes Bentonville an even more of a contender than they are right now. So Harbor's harbor girl's got to go on the road and win there then on the boys side. So those two teams played in the Neosho Classic. Bentonville was kind of on a slide at that point, but they got good players at Bentonville for the boys, and we know harbor boys are good. So it should be an exciting day there.
You know, a couple of five A West games we're looking at Tuesday. Alma Greenwood, Russellville at Van Buren. Can, can Van Buren keep winning and, and keep that thing going? And then Leland is going to go down to a 3A game. Paris and Charleston. Paris. One of our better stories of the year, Leland.
[00:16:56] Speaker C: Well, both of those games ought to be fantastic.
You know, Paris and Charleston girls, Charleston girls have only lost one game, so that's a huge game in the 3A4. And then the boys, man, you talk about star, star power in that game. Paris is very good. Had a Big story on court 10 cleave in the Sunday River Valley Democratic. And then of course, Maddox Terry is always his whole entire career at Charleston. He's been one of the top scorers in this area. So two fantastic games in the 3A4. And then of course, like you said, Tuesday nights in the 5A west is just fantastic because of the schedule structure.
Tuesday night is rivalry night. This week it is Alma going to Greenwood last week and I've got a, you know, we had an interview with Brody Myers from Van Buren. The, the rivalry night started last week with Van Buren hosting Greenwood and Greenwood led most of the first half and then Van Buren went on a 200 run in the third quarter.
Brody Myers had a big part in that. We talked to him after that, after that game. So Tuesday nights is big in the 5A west with rivalry night and Russellville's off to an 02 star. But they're always very good. So at this point, even though it's early, it's almost kind of a must win game for Russellville. So they're going to come in the Clearbaits arena really hungry for a win and like you said, we'll see if Van Duran can keep their torrid start going.
So fantastic week of high school football or basketball coming up.
[00:18:35] Speaker B: Get in your mind the football thing, you know, Leland, I was talking to Brad Autry at, after they rallied to beat Silent Springs in the fourth quarter on Friday night and I was telling him, I was like, I need to get down there. It's been a long time since I've been to a basketball game at Van Buren. He goes, well, you should come to the, the Alma Van Buren game. It's going to be lit, as the kids like to say.
[00:18:58] Speaker A: So lit is from like 2012. Nobody says that anymore, Graham.
[00:19:04] Speaker B: I'm not saying that's what Coach Autry said. So.
Well, he's hey, how about Friday, Friday's games.
[00:19:13] Speaker A: So we need to write you guys like a lingo, like, you know, list so that you understand these kids dialect.
[00:19:20] Speaker B: On on Friday, you know, you have Fort Smith Southside visiting Harbor.
You have Bentonville at Northside. And so that's two, you know, that's a big boys game there. The winner of that Bentonville Northside boys game is going to be, you know, in a good position, at least we like to think so here on Monday morning, Bentonville west at Springdale, Phil Fayetteville at Rogers. It should be a really good boys game there with the Mounties and the Bulldogs.
Leland, your big game is going to Be Mountain home at Van Buren. You know, another. Another great test for the Pointers at home. It's kind of funny they get these two games at home this week, but two good Mountain Home teams coming in. That's, you know, another team that we don't. We don't talk about them because they're not in our coverage area, but they're. They're involved in everything with teams from our coverage area. They got two really good teams, but they're having to make the trip this time.
So that's a great equalizer when it comes to basketball, even.
[00:20:22] Speaker C: Well, and the Lady Bombers are off to a great start. And, you know, they had three players score 16 points each on Friday night. So, you know, from what I understand, they might. They might be the favorite at this point.
Although the lady, you know, Bulldogs are certainly there. And of course, Farmington is, you know, off to a great start, too. So the girls race in the 5A west is going to be great to watch.
[00:20:50] Speaker B: I've been around this league enough to know, too, that anytime Harrison and Alma play in which they play on Friday at Alma, I mean, that's always a fun night. You know, you just have to know Harrison, you know, seems to bring out the best in teams and their student sections, and they always have. It's just always been that way, whether you're. You're in Siloam, whether you're at Alma or Van Buren or Greenwood. Anytime Harrison shows up that you want to beat Harrison, and so they're going to visit Alma on Friday, and we'll have coverage of that one as well. And then another just to kind of go on one more here. Shiloh Christian visits Pea Ridge. Big girls game and a big boys game.
There's just. I mean.
And somehow we're going to cover it all. Sydney.
[00:21:37] Speaker A: Well, double the teams with this sport. So we kind of asked for it.
[00:21:41] Speaker B: You know, at least. At least it's all, like, right there. You got game one and game two.
[00:21:45] Speaker A: Exactly. Double whammy. Two for one.
[00:21:47] Speaker B: I've. I've lived places where, you know, you'd have boys night and girls night. They'd be separate nights. And it just doesn't. It doesn't hit the same.
[00:21:54] Speaker A: Yeah, well, before we get into the top five and give me five, I. I'm gonna put Graham and Leland through a slang test.
Guys, what does cap mean?
[00:22:05] Speaker B: To me, cap means Steve Rogers, Captain America. I hear the word cap. Were you talking about, like, bust a cap?
[00:22:12] Speaker A: No, no, a wrong. Leland. What do you think it means?
[00:22:18] Speaker C: Well, I use cap A lot. And it's usually putting the final touches on a big 160 run.
[00:22:25] Speaker B: Oh, dear.
I both wrong.
[00:22:31] Speaker A: The word of the day. Cap means someone's lying.
So, like, for instance, if you see, like, a stat sheet and someone says, like, they're six foot, but you clearly know that they're five seven, you go, that's cap.
Yeah. So we're going to be doing these lessons throughout. Throughout the podcast this year to get you guys, you know, accustomed to what these young athletes are saying. Okay, can we explain?
[00:22:55] Speaker C: Well, Graham, it sounds like we have a lot to learn.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: Look, that is always the case, and I'm always happy to learn, but can you just explain to me what 67 is? I don't get it. I got 67 yesterday by my daughter, and I don't. I still don't know what it means.
[00:23:10] Speaker A: It literally means nothing. It's. You. You can use it for anything.
It's just. It's just literally nonsense. Like, there is no explanation to it. It's just like a goofy thing that people do in any situation.
Like. Like, for instance, when Braxton and Jeff Regan were on our show. And if you want to watch that, we have an episode with two of the Rogers football players. So go watch that if you want. But they the whole time were like, mike Jones. Mike Jones doesn't mean anything. It's just. It's just a fun meme.
But anyway, we will be doing these lessons throughout the podcast so that your other reporters are also informed.
[00:23:47] Speaker B: I'm gonna try that today. That's cap.
[00:23:50] Speaker A: Well, you have to use it correctly. You can't just, you know, say it.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: We'll see if we see if I get my daughter to.
[00:23:56] Speaker A: Well, she has to be caught in a lie. You have to, like.
[00:23:58] Speaker B: She has to say, oh, that'll never happen.
[00:24:00] Speaker A: Well, then you can't use it.
[00:24:03] Speaker B: She has friends, though.
[00:24:05] Speaker A: Oh, man, you guys have a lot to learn. But anyway, we want to remind everyone that NWA Online.com and River Valley Democrat Gazette are the premier spots to get all the latest news on all high school sports.

So go check that out if you'd like.
Hi, I'm Hallie we're from Rowland and this is the River Valley. Give me five. Go Rangers.
[00:24:48] Speaker C: These are the top five performances in the River Valley last week where we may not know what Cap is, but we can tell you a lot of things that you won't find anywhere else. Number five, we're going to go to Oklahoma where the Rolling Rangers, Running Rangers and the Lady Rangers both won the Sequoia County Tournament last week. The rolling Lady Rangers three in a row and the running Rangers three out of the last four. Demonte Owens scored 31 points on Friday night in the 71 to 43 win over Muldrow with nine or eight rebounds. He scored 60 points in the two games including the semifinals and hit 10 three pointers combined in those two games. In the girls game, Brian Nelke scored 23 points and she had 47 points in the semifinals in the finals and hit nine threes combined to lead the Lady Rangers to a 56 to 27 win over Muldrow.
Number four, Carol Black. Even though the north side Grizzlies are off to a one and two start, he has scored 65 points in three games, including 19 points against Springdale last week, including four of the team's eight points and a three pointer in overtime with 17 seconds left to lead Northside to the 6261 win over Springdale.
Number four, Kaylee Ward of Mansfield last week against Paris in a 5352 win on Monday became the school's all time leading score going over the 1600 point mark in her career with plenty of games left.
Number two, Kyla Piercey also went over the 1600 point mark last week in their conference game conference win over Harrison.
She had 60 points and two wins last week for the Lady Bulldogs.
And number one our players of the week girls is Haley Taylor of Boonville. She hit the game winner in a in a 3534 win over Paris and then the boys. Hudson Clark also had a game winning bucket and an overtime win over Harrison on Friday night.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: Good stuff Leland. All great. A very solid Gimme 5 to start off the new year.
[00:27:23] Speaker A: This is McKinley Campbell from Harvard and this is NWA top five and these.
[00:27:28] Speaker B: Are going to be the top five performances for Northwest Arkansas for the last week. Number five, it actually happened down in the River Valley. Sydney Sky Davenport from Rogers Heritage poured in 33 points to help the Rogers Heritage War Eagles get a conference win over Fort Smith Southside.
Two teams that have kind of been struggling a little bit.
War Eagles with a big win. Sky Davenport's a good player. He's he's been putting a lot of big numbers up against a lot of people. So Rogers Heritage gets a conference win there. Number four, your girl, McKinley Campbell from Springdale harbor at 22 points in the win over Fayetteville. So one half of the Campbell twins. McKinley's kind of the. The scorer of the two Madison can put it in the bucket as well. You know, you, you add Sinai Coachman to that mix and they've got a really good group of kids there at Springdale Harbor.
Can't wait till they play Fort Smith Northside. That'll be a real showdown in that front. Number three, Chris Hill of Rogers goes for 27 points in a win against Springdale on Friday night. There were four Mounties and double figures. We're seeing a lot of this here lately, Leland. See it like in your, in your game with the Farmington Alma. I think what about five guys for Farmington had double doubles in that game is what it seemed like. I read.
Speaking of Farmington, number two, Easton McCullough.
You know, and at some point she's going to have to get player of the week. You know, we just keep putting it off. Putting off like just like we did with Jeff Regan and turns out I don't think Jeff Regan ever made player of the week.
[00:29:06] Speaker A: Why do you say. Why do you. Why do you say we when you pick it?
[00:29:11] Speaker B: Well, I mean, you know, anyways, actually, actually, believe it or not, I don't pick the player of the week. I get that from my reporter who does the story on player of the week. He picks it. I just go along with is sort of a staff thing. We try to have some, some communication about who it's going to be. We really do. Anyway, Easton McCullough against Alma with stats from Leland Barclay was at the game 31 points, 7 steals, 6 assists, 5 rebounds. Just another day at the office.
Big night for McCullough. Lady Cardinals are off to a great season. And then a shout out on the Farmington boys side.
Like you talked about, Leland Eli Schwartzman, 18 assists. I don't know that I've heard that since John Stockton played in the NBA. Just an assist machine.
Steve Nash could also do something like that.
Do you know who John Stockton or Steve Nash is?
[00:30:12] Speaker A: I don't know Steve Nash is, but I know Stockton is okay.
[00:30:16] Speaker B: Steve Nash was really good player too.
And number one, Evie Cooper of Greenland is our girls player of the week. She had 27 points and a 3A1 win over West Fork and then 15 against Elkins. The Lady Pirates are 17 in a row since losing to Fayetteville back in December. And I could tell you too, they've they've had a really some difficult circumstances here in the last few weeks. As most people know, there was a automobile accident leaving Mansfield with the one of the Greenland coaches. Actually, he's a boys coach, but his daughter plays on the team for Greenland. Lily Shopper is her name and Coach Shopper is the one who's injured for Greenland in the accident. And thoughts and prayers certainly go out to the Greenland community about all this.
There's still a long way to go for Coach Shopper, but the Lady Pirates are continuing on and playing really good basketball. And I know they're doing it with heavy hearts too. So great job. By Evie Cooper of Greenland Our boys Player of the Week is Duke Bowman of Shiloh Christian. Duke Duke The Duke had 32 points in a Shiloh win over Prairie Grove on Tuesday.
Then on Friday he followed that up with 22 in a win against Huntsville. Shiloh Christian is the defending conference champions. Off to a great start and we're off to a great start. Basketball season's off and running and it's going to be a fun next few weeks.
